That University of Leicester video clearly uses a fish eye lens to trick people into thinking there's a curve. The first video with poor quality clearly shows no curve at all!

Jokes aside we should happily encourage Bob whatshisface to conduct his own experiments. Even if it's something settled and he's an idiot it's still the spirit of science to conduct your own observations and experiments to determine the truth of nature.

So have at it bob, and when you're done, please tell everyone what you have found. Then apologise.

If the Earth was flat then explain how you could take off in a plane, fly in a straight line, and then eventually get back to the place that you took off from.

The cities in the background are approx. 16miles apart... where is the curve ? please explain

OK, well the cities behind you are one city.  Atlanta.  That's downtown to the left and Buckhead to the right.  And you can see the horizon.  For example, you can see Kennessaw Mountain all the way to the right, but you can't see Fort Mountain or Lookout Mountain behind it even though they are taller because they are roughly 100 miles away from you.

They claim North Pole is the center, Antarctica is a rim around the outside.  When you fly "East" you are at a right angle and can still do a circle, just over flat land rather than a sphere.

Also, pilots are in on it.

Came in to say that:

Clearly shows that the camera is distorting things.

I'm still convinced that a lot of the established flat earthers are trolling, and get a huge kick out of when someone tries to convince them they're wrong using science that is, itself, incorrect. For example, in the other thread on this today, someone said that a time-lapse picture of stars showing a circle, taken at the north pole, proves that we live on a sphere. No, it proves that we live on something rotating. The different angles "up" and the change in those pictures at different latitudes is what proves we live on a globe. The conclusion is right, but their argument is just as incorrect as the flat earthers'.

The average-height person can see out ~3 miles to the horizon.  If the Earth was flat then you'd see ground going out much further.
The reason you can't is because of the curvature of the Earth.

All the historical reading I have ever done shows that there was a generally recognition the Earth was a sphere in Classical and Middle Age Europe. The flat Earth thing was a 19th century invention.

In my experience, it's been about 50/50.  Half are what you're talking about - they like to push buttons, encourage the idiots that do believe it, and enjoy the responses from educated people who try to "teach" them.  It's all an act, and very attention whoring.

The other half are morons of the highest order.  They really do believe it.  It comes from a place of complete and total ignorance, and the more it's challenged with data, evidence, and demonstration of how wrong they are, the more they turn into moon landing deniers.  It's a massive conspiracy of millions.  And they're constantly supported and egged on by the first group.  The tend to the be the same sort that believe in crystal energies, homeopathy, New Age philosophical ideologies. psychics, and get pulled into the granola side of the antivaxxer movement.  Or they're the total demagogue slobbering moron types (fewer of those than you'd think).

It's like a church where half the adherents think it's a complete joke, but keep attending and feeding the system to enjoy farking with the true believers.  Not for malevolence or some idea of social control, but just for the lulz.

While that is certainly true for some of them, there are quite a few that are very real and very serious. Just think about all the kooky conspiracy theories people believe in, sky wizards, etc. The desire to believe in some secret knowledge that separates you from the herd is a powerful thing. Here's one of my favorite comments from a lady who is completely serious.

I can help you with your question of motive of why the space programs are faked.  To cut a long story short, the explorers sailed, mapped and documented the Earth ok so this is a good basis to begin with. These original maps show a circular Continent they followed an ice wall 2 miles high for at least 60,000 miles, naming sites as they went but never finding an entry point, read more for yourself.  So, this is missing on the globe model, begs a big question that Flat Earthers are challenging ok so this is very serious.  The Globalists have hidden this Circle by proving that the Earth is a sphere from their space knowledge that you have to believe, reducing it down to a miniscule blob on the bottom of the globe toy with only 12, ooo miles of coastline? and yet the circumference of flat earth is calculated to be 78,000 miles around.  The globe theory started back in the 1600's, immediately debunked because seas are level but was plucked from history by the illuminati group of the richest men in the world (the banksters/globalists/UN - flat earth flag image shown that they use - this is the code of the illuminati, that they mix truth with a lie), but the proof they needed was to actually have the ability to see it all as reality, so they planned the moon landings back in the 50's when the 1st landing was documented (stage show) these globalists even use the flat earth flag shown right here!  They have been colonising this continent and reaping it's juicy LAND MASS of gold, minerals, oil, coal, get it now???  Please, help ud end this charade and learn more about the fact that we have been charged for FREE energy, funding trillions into NASA that has been used to deceive and conceive their plan, colonising and exploring the Antarctic Circle all the while your attention is being directed into space beyond.

I think B.o.O.B. should take that $581, go to a doctor and have himself examined for presence of brain cells. He should probably have them start inside his rectum...

Look, I get that it is just a publicity stunt/PR/attention whore thing, but it is so pathetically lame that I stand by my initial statement.

Here is my idea for a go-fund-me and PR stunt, let's get together at least $20k to pay Neil deGrasse Tyson. The next time B.o.O.B. here is on stage, Neil walks out and hits him in the back of the head with a bottle of MD 20/20, and then outlines a circle over his prone body and walks off stage.
Film it, put it on youtube and there are your millions of PR clicks...

I suggested that he send up a weather balloon in the other thread, and part of the reason that the exercise would be useful is that he'd be able to make sure of the following on his own:

1. That the camera/lens that he's using is able to distinguish between a flat and a curved horizon. (i.e., he gets to do his own ground calibration.)
2. That the pictures he takes as the balloon ascends all come from the same camera with the same optical parameters.
3. That no agents of the Illuminati/Rothschilds/Rosicrucians/Bilderbergers/Lizard People get access to his equipment between the time he finishes ground testing and the time that the balloon gets released. (This would not be an option if he made a CubeSat, since he'd have to hand it over to the launch company.)

Probably the nicest thing I can call B.o.B. is "silly," but if he actually were to follow through on making a weather balloon, it would actually be a very scientific way to assuage his doubts, (especially since most of his "skepticism" seems to consist of linking to crappy photos on Instagram that people take on planes or at the top of mountains, and complaining that he can't see the curve of the earth.) This type of project is very easily within the reach of a dedicated hobbyist, and frankly, if he thinks that the curve of the earth is in that much doubt, he'd be really irresponsible not to.
