(Some Guy)   Easter Eggs are fun. In Crusader Kings II if you defeat rebels in the province of Tuscany, you get a message stating that they "They will be back in greater numbers." What are your favorite video game easter eggs?   ( crusaderkings.com) divider line

**SPOILERS**

I love the Specimen Sample Easter egg found in the last Half Life game.

So, there are the three terminals hidden throughout the boat, each containing log journals written by crew members. The thing is, those crew members aren't listed in the crew log (found on the terminal on the first floor).  When you go back and look at the journals, you'll see that they are dated AND contain words that are capitalized that shouldn't be.

So, the letters you get from the first terminal is AFGYT. What do you do with this code?

Put it into the keypad in the broken terminal on the third floor. It's the one that appears broken because it's the only one that isn't lit up. Do the same thing with the next two keypads in the next two doors using the codes ZBGUU and FDJUI.  Then, you finally reach the chamber labeled Specimen Sample.

Inside the door... you will find the pieces of the GLaDOS 2 prototype with notes left behind by the G-Man... which makes for an awesome read!

Probably my favorite part of Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Unrelated.   In CK2 I once turned a nominally quiet ruler into a genocidal maniac because I was new to the game and hadn't married a daughter off matrilinially, and then somehow she ended up succeeding the current ruler and she had a damn high number of children that would inherit.   I think I had to axe half the royal family to set that one right.

That is a weird filter pwnage. I think it's because there was an "f" immediately followed by "ck"

Oh well. Hopefully I was clear enough by context.

there are tons of EEs i miss because i dont get every reference. this was one of them.

when i played Borderlands 2 i didnt know this was an easter egg until i played Dark Souls 2 some time later, but there is a DS2 bonfire in one of the maps in BL2 and it has 'Solitaire' (Solaire from DS2) sitting next to his wisp summoned form by the bonfire. someone else told me of another one in Just Cause 3. i like these kinds of easter eggs. also like the ones that are just posters in the background, etc.

That's less an easter egg, and more players abusing the hell out of the system and a couple of unpatched exploits.  Which is half the fun of Paradox games.

That they did that on an Ironman game still blows my mind.

Oh wow. The things my young innocent mind would never have imagined back then...

...but now? Based on Roger's position, and knowing Mark Crowe was one of the game's rather quirky creators, I could guess exactly what you'd typed. I googled the dialogue box quote from the screencap, and sure enough, I was right.

In CorelDRAW IV, if you clicked on the About menu item, you got a dialog box with the version number and serial number and their iconic hot air balloon logo.  If you held a key (ctrl, if I remember), the balloon would rise and it would pull a banner with all the programmer names.  If you clicked on the mouse, Elvis would jump out with a parachute and yell "Yeah!"

Speaking of Elvis, in Civ II, if you started a "Capture the king" game on January 8, the normal king icon would be replaced by an elvis icon.

Battlefield 1942, I think, or perhaps a mod for it, had an Easter Egg of sorts.  If you bailed out of an aircraft at a ridiculous altitude and free fell for a while you'd hear a loud fart as though you shat yourself.

Borderlands 2 was loaded with pop culture references. But the Wildest easter egg of the them all was a ridiculously long quest that referenced the Lord of the Rings. I don't even know how people figured that this quest existed. The developer must have leaked it.
