Kelly doesn't trust anyone at this point, and I can't say that I blame him. The entire Trump administration requires micromanagement, because it only takes a few minutes for Trump, or one of his kids, or one of his hired flunkies, to make a complete ass of themselves thanks to social media.

He's developing the kind of habits that someone with PTSD gets when it comes to making and keeping a safe space. Took me forever to stop waking up hourly and checking the windows & doors of my own house...

Kelly's critics, however, say that his efforts to carefully vet the information Trump receives has led the president to consume less conservative media in his daily news diet - which has left him out of touch with his base.

They asked Trump about private flights for his cabinet secretaries and he had no clue, he was still talking about the honeymoon, "he didn't take the flight." He clearly isn't getting this information, or is and doesn't give enough shiats to pay attention to it.

Yes, because long walks at night aren't one of the classic coping techniques to stave off an existential crisis and delay an incipient emotional breakdown or existential crisis, or anything.

Can you imagine him sitting down at a desk and reading through a stack of briefings, for a solid hour or more, or paying attention and making notes while his team go through briefings?

So he's walking around looking for those printouts that just any staffer used to be able to leave on his desk, to make sure they aren't blown-in by the breeze to end up in his boss's hands?

On one hand....

He can patrol the perimeter and quiz the Secret Service on their General Orders all he wants, but he cannot control Trump and he knows this. No amount of micromanaging can overcome the relentless shiatstorm. Gen.Kelly should think about his own exit strategy before his own reputation is damaged beyond repair.

On the other hand...
Maybe things would be so much worse if he and others like Mathis weren't holding firm and corralling Trump as much as they are.

I don't have an issue with mea culpa even when I did read the article but....
How does that quote answer my question? Who hired Kelly into this position? Why did someone think it is important to get order into the WH? And who is that someone?

I'm starting to wonder if we had a minor coup and those two are actually running the show now.  He's let out to get attention like he craves, and they're handling the day to day actual governance.

Yup. Dude is looking for any kind of routine or normalcy after long, long days of dealing with chaos.  He probably doesn't sleep well either.

Might as well take a walk where you're sure no one will bother you. I'd say he's earned it.

I think they're locking down the entire Executive Branch because they're sick and tired of the morale drop.  Only reason I can think of someone patrolling the White House grounds is matter of security.  Either they're looking for people who are sneaking out to drop news (unlikely) or that the Secret Service and other security types have lost so much morale that Trump and Pence's life is in danger.

I think the generals have figured out how to stop the madness, however.  Trump's inner circle is full of drama queens.  One good way to stop that outright is to inform them that this isn't a reality show and that if it came down to the country's security or their petty problems, nobody is going to cry that much if one of them ends up in the Potomac with a bullet in the back of their head.  I think we're at that level, and that would explain why a lot of the biatching from Trump has stopped and why a lot of his own people are slowly being ushered out, and why Ivanka and Kushner are slowly withdrawing from the madness.  Trump is now isolated so the country will run but he'll still take the brunt of the damage from this madness.
