Lucky.  I only heard of him about a year ago, and never saw him live.  Looks like he gave a hell of a show before he got sick, and poured his heart into every performance, sick or not.  He was a James Brown imitator for much of his career, and even when he left that behind, you could still see the influence, but damn, he made James Brown look like a Charles Bradley imitator. So good.

So incredibly sad. A Farker in the threads after Sharon Jones died introduced me to him and warned that he wasn't well. Incredibly thankful for that introduction and upset the health prediction was accurate.

Tired of this part of getting older where people I admire get cancer and die too soon.

I've been obsessively listening to Bradley for a while now. I was hoping to see him live one day.

/Also, fark cancer.
//Check out Daptone Records.
///His label had a bunch of throwback soul stuff on their. Great stuff.

C'mon now. This guy was nowhere near James Brown level.

Cause they're pouring out they're soul,  working hard for the money. Amazing song...i was surprised to see his whole backing band was white.  I found that.... odd.

Yeah I liked the contrast of a quite young but very competent all white backup band and a senior mega-black soul singer. But hey they worked together as a band and I didn't think too much of it. Wonder how they met up though.

Saw him live at a festival a few years back. His energy and commitment put a lot of the younger acts to shame. Damn fine performer and a hell of a musician.
