You mean sell them to The Koch Brothers?

Shrink Katadhin to cut down a few acres of trees. Not like most of northern Maine is just wilderness or anything.  And exactly what the fark he could possibly do with the lopped off part of Grand Staircase Escalante is beyond me, along with being beyond most infrastructure.

For those who will pay the $190,000 initiation fee there will always be Mar-a-Lago Yellowstone.

Those are national monuments, not parks only congress can change parks I believe.

Nature is not for your enjoyment, plebe, it's for corporate exploitation and profit!

maybe they should change the name to Grand Staircase Escalante  confederate memorial park and then they'd protect it?

Could someone define "great" for me? My definition seems to be at odds with that of the current adminstration.

The 'monument' in Maine is literally next door to Mount Katahdin and Baxter State Park.  It is redundant as hell. I know this isn't a popular view but it's true.

Another weasel of a grifter. No respect or understanding of what his job is.
This asshole is the Watt of this administration.

Can we stop with the hyperbole? No, this whole opening national monuments up to development is not a good thing, but from the headline you'd think the administration was planning so sell off all of 'em

Marcus Aurelius: Tell me a Trump Tower wouldn't look great on the rim of the Grand Canyon.

Two of those words should never be in the same sentence, no matter the juxtaposition.

Why did all this monument shiat suddenly come up and now won't go away?

2017-09-18 11:11:24 PM
It's about heritage, not environmentalism.

We Sons and Daughters of the Earth just want to commemorate our ancestors' bravery in the War of Corporate Aggression.  Zinke wants to erase our history because of Corporate Correctness, and to appease the radicals from Bonus Lifestyle Matters......

/  and that's as far as I could get before the I felt the derp staring back at me from the abyss

sure, rape the land.  I'm sure nothing bad will ever happen as a result of rampant unrestricted exploitation and development.

FTFA: [...] accused previous presidents of improper "land grabs" in establishing the monuments, singling out President Obama who placed 553 million acres under protection during his presidency

And so the true motive becomes clear, it's another plank in the "Reeeee Obama" platform

We must reverse this land grab!!!

So that we can get that delicious, delicious oil and coal.

Undoing Obama's legacy. Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks and Rio Grande Del North were both Obama designations.

But I thought historical places were so important we shouldn't even remove a shiatty racist's statue in a public park?

Meh. I said goodbye when Trump was elected. Honestly, after visiting Florida this week, I stopped giving a fark about national parks. The environment is doomed no matter what. The uncontrolled growth here on the west coast of Florida is revolting. Endless tract homes. More malls. The pollution in the air. Clearcutting land for more growth. Displacing animals. The filth in the waterways.
Saving the Grand Canyon won't mean shiat when the Colorado is turned into a dry river bed from the droves of asshole midwesterners moving to Phoenix and the surrounding areas.

If it commemorates a racist slave maintaining country, then conservatives are for preserving it; on the other hand, if it's an ecological necessity, even if destroying it and/or what replaces the national monument will cause harm to humans then removing it is supported, because giving into corporate demands for unlimited profits is the conservative mantra (even though "conserve" is implied by their dogma).

Confederate monuments? Yes, of course.

I sometimes get the weird feeling that republicans are destroying national parks more out of a sense of petty vindictiveness than out of any real need to access the resources that might be underneath all the leafy green salad.

scientists: 'biodiversity is important.'
GOP: 'f*ck hippies - we need OIL WELLS!'
scientists: 'um, but we don't need...'
GOP: "OIL WELLS!  HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!  LOVELY OIL WELLS EVERYWHERE!'
