So what happens when a court orders you to release your visitor logs and you provide an obviously incomplete list? I would assume courts don't care for that. Does someone go to jail if it's proven the list is incomplete?

...you realize the story you linked is about how the Obama administration kept the White House visitor logs relatively open access and the Trump administration has since done away with that?

Also that the story this thread is attached to is about the visitor logs at Mar-a-Lago, not the White House?

Not sure about that, but I'd imagine it could raise some red flags at the IRS.

I hate the current administration with a passion, but isn't it standard procedure for hotels to stay tight-lipped about their guests?

We all want to know what sort

of people stayed at the Mar a Lago resort

.

Japanese fox demon?  Russian spies?

Would Satan himself even be a surprise?

.

Maybe an orphan for a weekend of fun?

Maybe, more likely, Attila the Hun.

.

Because of Mar a Lago's most famous resident

We'll probably never know who owns our president.

In Russia, they take your passport and keep it for a while before returning it to you.  I assumed they were making a list of the visitors to the hotel.  What surprised me was that even the Russians themselves had to give up their passports as well.

The names on the list that was released were all of staff members for Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who visited the Palm Beach "Winter White House" in February.

Noticeably absent from the list?  Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Which means they're not even trying to just hide information or defend their turf as the executive branch.  They're putting in deliberate 'fark you's in their responses to court orders.

THEN MAYBE THE FARKING PRESIDENT SHOULD NOT BE MEETING PEOPLE AT A HOTEL HE OWNS!

Or maybe he shouldnt own any farking hotels when he is president.  But no.  He just farking refused to do the same thing every other president had done before and put his shiat in a blind trust.

Shiat like this is what we were yelling about on day 1 with the conflicts of interest and the appearences of impropriety.  We have a ethicless, money laundering serial traitor as our president and we can't stay focused on that long enough to get rid of him before he lies us into war and cements his position as an untouchable wartime president.

Previous POTUS have respected the Constitution and therefore haven't owned hotels and resort properties or continued to conduct conflict-of-interest-y business while in office, so standard procedure's kinda out the window now.

Also Motel 6 hasn't been tight-lipped about their guests these days

Listen, Trump was able to jack up membership dues at his clubs in part because he was able to advertise that being a member would make them privy to the inner workings of government (from sitting in on Cabinet interviews to planning foreign policy at the next table of the dining room). Making the identities of these people known would have a chilling effect and might drive membership down or force Trump to cut fees to retain or replace them. Don't you see that would have a chilling effect on our democracy?

From your own link: The logs are still available as open government data on the Obama White House archive, compressed into ZIP files that expand into comma-separated value data sets. If you have Excel or can set up a database, you can search through them.

And how is it supposed to be Obama's fault that functionality on a .gov website was taken down a month after he left office?

they were trying to cut business deals with foreign countries before they even got into office. meeting with foreign officials and businessmen without going through  state dept or DHS channels. setting up back channels for communication etc.  ignoring all advice and warnings because they wanted the money so bad. Kushner was one of the worst at jumping the gun and selling favors.

I've read that's it's done to make sure the hotel gets their money, and that it's common in countries where corruption's a problem.

Could very well be exactly that. It's been a while so I don't recall the details of every hotel stay, but I'm certain I paid up front with rubles at a few places.

They are to do that in Italy as well.  The reason was that there were so many pickpockets that it was to make sure you didn't get it stolen... but it also made sure you paid your room before leaving.

If he refuses to release them, it's grounds for impeachment.  Rumor has it that Mueller is asking at least 7 Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee to recuse themselves, thus making it quite possible that impeachment proceedings originate from that committee... But it could just be wishful thinking.

Just the fact that they're flaunting a court order should be enough to get some folks jailed for contempt.
