Untold hundreds of thousands of people could die from this, and their excuse will be, "If you worked you could have had insurance. It's not our fault you're poor."

So, they get to commit involuntary manslaughter on a wide scale and it's all nice and legal.

USA! USA! USA!

The fact that health insurance in the USA is tied to your employment status is a big part of the reason it's so farked up.

Until they pass a bill that isn't "mean", promise to fund the Great Wall of North America, and deport all the Dreamers.
Or pass a bill that's totally "mean", promise to make Mexico pay for the Great Wall of North America, and protect all the Dreamers.

Or whatever way the wind in his empty head is blowing that day...

This doesn't affect me at since I can't afford health insurance but I really hope everyone who would be negatively affected by this remembers all of the attempts that the Republicans have made to kill them or someone in their family.
Somehow I doubt this will happen.

It's a last chance to pass a skinny repeal with 50 votes. The only good news is that Democrats could pass a skinny un-repeal if they get control in 2020 and keep it revenue neutral (by raising taxes on rich people)

Because Senate rules (which can be changed, as shown by Supreme Court)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconciliation_(United_States_Congress)

However, McCain has said he won't vote for any bills that don't follow committee procedure. So did they get Murkowski, Collins, or McCain to reneg?

Are they hoping to declare John McCain unfit and replace him with a governor appointed lackey?

Since Republicans seem to be getting off on suffering and death, how about once per week you take a poor family (choosen randomly) to be brought onto the debate floor and each week one senator gets to decide how they die. No limits on gruesomeness. After a year every GOPler will have had his turn and hopefully got it out of their system and leave the rest of you in peace (and with healthcare)

And if you think this is despicable, it's still way more humane than what will happen if they get their way. Also, remember that you voted them into power, so there.

Speaking as someone whose insurance lapsed thanks to not being able to pay the premium, because I was ill, and literally an ACA program then came into play to cover me, yeah, it pretty much DID save my life. And hundreds of thousands of other folks have gotten insurance in times when OTHERWISE markets wouldn't touch them, and thus were able to NOT be absolutely bankrupted by debt, and deprioritized for care by a hospital...

On top of it, the BIG thing that the ACA does, given that folks aren't bankrupting themselves with illness, is that they get to keep their lights on. And their rents or mortgages paid up. And grocery stores get sales, as well as OTHER utilities.

The ACA isn't just about making sure that people get health care, but that they can get affordable health care, so that they can KEEP contributing and providing for themselves and their community. And that tends to get lost. The ACA helps keep local economies from crisis. Landlords and banks continue to be paid. Utility companies get paid. Grocery stores get paid. A whole cascade of folks continue to get paid, even when folks are ill. And while that's not "demons spilling through and killing everyone" it IS part and parcel of what the ACA is supposed to prevent, in an economic sense. It is supposed to help not just keep people alive, but communities working and growing as well. Which oddly enough, all these brave "concerned souls" who claim we "can't afford" to keep people healthy seem to forget. The ACA keeps communities and local economies healthier as well, and the question is "Can we afford to choke off local banks and local utilities? Can we afford to watch communities falter when there are health issues in a significant portion of their population?"

In order to spam boards properly to preserve narrative, you really do need a bit of training, because the natural instincts that cause most of us to reel in shame when confronted with the enormity of the falsehoods we project have to be ground out, so that the natural talent for muckrakery and f*ckwittery can take over...

No, they won't just drop dead. They'll suffer slow, agonizingly painful deaths as diseases that could've been treated or prevented eat away at their bodies,

I guess 'America is too shiatty to implement socialized healthcare like damn near every other developed nation' is a KIND of American exceptionalism...

Remember, tying health insurance to employment was the Republican alternative to universal healthcare in the early 1950's.

Truman wanted true universal healthcare in the US, he proposed such a plan. . .but the Republicans and AMA fought against it HARD, including that era's version of "fake news", complete with posters and pamphlets for Doctors Offices with lots of propaganda against it, complete with faked quotes attributed to Marx, Lenin and Stalin talking about how "socialized medicine' is the first step in the creation of a communist state.

. . .after years of fighting in Washington (the late '40's and early '50's) what came out of it was the Republican plan to let the cost of health insurance premiums be tax deductible, so employers would get a tax incentive to offer health insurance to employees.  With the post-war economic boom of the early '50's and very low unemployment, it got lots of people insurance quickly.

So yeah, our system is farked up because we've been using a Republican alternative to universal healthcare for ~65 years and it hasn't worked.

I usually have a pretty good idea of what a story is going to be based on the headline, but for this one i was thinking it's Trump tweeting out a bunch of dumb shiat or another subpoena or maybe the revelation of yet another undisclosed Russian contact by Trump's administration.

In my defense, any of those were possible based on the headline.
