Check the prices on 5 star hotels and you'll see 500 a night is not unusual.  However discounts are available and d2s should be offering them.  He won't because it's all about milking the system for him.

Only if his hotels already have a government worker rate.  It's actually illegal to undercharge federal employees, as it is considered a form of bribery by giving them something for less than market.  Yes, it works to D2S's advantage in this case, but he's in the clear legally.

Impeachment

Unless and until Congress actually believes that Trump has done something worth impeachment, this will never happen.

except for that whole emolument's clause, sure.

Also, this investigation isn't over unless someone thinks there have only been 22 guests since he assumed the Presidency.

President Trump owns 99.99% of Mar-a-Lago, LLC directly,

Who owns the other 0.01%? I tried reading the linked document but I seem to have a problem with my eyeglasses prescription.

Well yes, but I'm pretty sure emoluments violations aren't criminal acts, unless some Congress got around to putting it into law somewhere.

Also, technically he's not getting paid, the Trump Organization (or whatever company actually owns MaL) is. You and I know that's just a short circuit, but legally they're separate entities and that remove might be enough...

SpaceyCat: Impeachment

Unless and until Congress actually believes that Trump has done something worth impeachment continuing as President will do more damage to the Party than impeaching him would, this will never happen.

FTFY. The GOP would toss Trump out in a heartbeat if they didn't need the votes of his scumbag supporters. They toss Trump, they lose a huge chunk of their base, they suffer for at least a couple of elections.

I think at best, they'd do it soon after the 2018 elections, so they'll have all of 2019 to try and win the deplorable farksticks back.

That is unless Mueller gives them no real choice, by dropping an ironclad case into their laps.

Mar-a-lago club, Inc. Which is majority owned by Trump also.

This is a rather weird corporate structure - 99% of the business in a revocable trust, and only 1% in an incorporated entity. I know why he's doing it this way: c-corporations have a double taxation liability where profits are taxed and then any income a person derives from them are also taxed. I don't understand what the fark the 99% that is held by a "revocable trust" actually is, or wtf a revocable trust is.

I looked it up yesterday. The 2017 GSA rate for Palm Springs -where Mar a Lago is located - is $182 per night during the "busy" season.

There are two emoluments clauses

First one says the President can't accept anything from foreign states without the consent of Congress

Second one says the President gets a salary, that it can't be increased or decreased while he's in office, and that he can't get any other money from either the federal government or any state government

The first one is Article I, Section 9:

"...and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state."

The second one is Article II, Section 1, Clause 7:

"The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be increased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them."

Regardless of the retail value of the room, the emoluments clause prohibits the (choke) president from profiting off use of his property by domestic or foreign governments. All they have to do is provide a card/statement to people who reserve rooms or arrive without reservations inviting them to let the desk clerk know (maybe check a box) if they're representing government, foreign or domestic. Seems to me that should cover it. Then charge those rooms out at cost, rather than retail. The same goes for other hotel charges - golf carts, dining, etc.
