It's a dumpster fire

That's all that needed to be said.  About this whole administration.

Another job that most Americans don't want to do.

Is America Great Again yet?

When I was in, all it did was reduce the min waiting period from 5 to 3 years.
  There was no auto citizenship.
Did that change?

2017-09-16 02:58:38 PM
what the sh*t, Army.

2017-09-16 02:59:01 PM
But don't forget: offering trans people basic medical care is what's destroying military readiness.

The tears...

This sucks. If they are willing to fight for freedom, let them. They have balls to risk death to be able to live here.

2017-09-16 02:59:58 PM
I just watched 11 young men and women take their path of citizenship at my nephews army basic training graduation 11 days ago. I also was in training in the mid 80s myself with several who gained citizenship the same way. Very honorable or them to take an oath to protect and defend this country. And should they complete their enlistment they should definitely be given citizenship. Made me proud to see them take their oath

Boy am I ever tired of winning!

Gee, what a great way to make a group of combat trained young people hate us and our country

2017-09-16 03:04:43 PM
Do you want defectors? Because that's how you get defectors.

If someone is working as a translator in their country for you, and you are going to leave them high and dry, they will only do what they need to for survival after.

And don't you need to be a legal resident to enlist in the first place?

"It's a dumpster fire ruining people's lives. The magnitude of incompetence is beyond belief," she said. "We have a war going on. We need these people."

Exactly, and it's a war that has no end. Which reminds me......

This is the war that never ends
yes it goes on and on my friends
some people started fighting it
not knowing what it was
and they'll continue fighting it
forever just because

And they keep proving me right.

It's not just the military, it's basically every facet of the US government.  I remember all of the loan officers/financial aid advisers telling me about all the programs the government offers.  Income based repayment, public service loan forgiveness.....

They sound great; but what nobody tells you is that it's not part of your actual agreement.  They can cancel the program at any time.  They can change the terms at any time.  And you're still on the hook for it.

No other lender could do it - there are laws against it...

2017-09-16 03:13:11 PM
The military doesnt get to make laws.  Generally thats a good thing.  Sucks that some folks careers are going to get destroyed by this.

Let me guess, these were the young guys with combat experience that were promised citizenship (and a better life) by being thrown into the worst situations in Iraq and Afghanistan, doing the jobs neither the military nor the contractors are willing to do, just so that the headcount of American deaths can be reduced? (Not that 'they' care, but media).

*click*
Yeah.
FTA: "Many of these enlistees have waited years to join a troubled recruitment program designed to attract highly skilled immigrants into the service in exchange for fast-track citizenship."
Would anyone care to give us a number of how many of these guys died on the frontline?

Son, all I've ever asked of my Marines is for them to obey my orders as they would the word of God. We are here to help the Vietnamese because inside of every g00k there is an American trying to get out.... It's a hardball world, son. We've got to try to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over.

Over 900,000 Americans gained citizenship by serving in the US military. Care to guess how far back you have to go to find an ancestor of yours who became American by military service to his (or her) would-be nation?

If you've ever served in the military then you'd already know that you can be told to piss off at any time, for any reason (or no reason other than a very nebulous "At the convenience of the government"). I had an early separation (by two months) because I wasn't going to be going out to sea anymore. This was after over eight years in. The navy didn't even bother to warn me ahead of time so that I could make some sort of plan, just pull into port and four days later I was discharged (honorably of course).

Based on your user name, it was because you spent too many years at sea leaning up against the reactors.

Are they really charging you 4.5 times as much for the longer subscription?  That's an impressive reversal of economy of scale.

Ha! No. The name comes from a certain medical procedure that involved barium and an airport radiation detector.

Stock said a recruiter told her there was pressure from the recruiting command to release foreign-born recruits, with one directive suggesting they had until Sept. 14 to cut them loose without counting against their recruiting targets, an accounting quirk known as "loss forgiveness."

"Recruiting command?" No, there's one guy. There's always one guy. If it's labeled "From the Office of...," there's still only one guy. Ultimately, that guy is General James Mattis, and he better explain why, in the middle of complaining that the military is ill-prepared for the threats we face, he's cutting loose a group of people eager to serve and who have traditionally served with excellence.
