An interesting notion that your opinions on your personal Twitter account might somehow reflect badly on your employer, isn't it, Mr. Trump?

On Thursday, ThinkProgress exclusively reported that amid brewing controversy over Jemele Hill's tweets calling President Donald Trump a "white supremacist," ESPN had initially tried to keep Hill off the air on Wednesday for the 6:00 p.m. ET broadcast of SportsCenter.

Two sources close to the situation told ThinkProgress that Hill's co-host, Michael Smith, refused to go on the air without her, as did two black anchors ESPN asked to serve as fill-ins. Eventually, ESPN called Hill back to the studio and the show went on as usual.

Handled cravenly by ESPN and they should be ashamed.

Dude. He knows he's racist and he is fine with it. Of course he's gonna play with the media. That's his strength. Why do we, as a nation, keep pretending otherwise? Why is the media so determined to not say it or admit it. Why is ESPN so touchy about this? Our nation has fundamentally changed since Nov 8 2016. We are now facing our national skeletons in the form of President Trump. I thought we would deal with this more intelligently after we elected Obama. Nope. We have to do this the hard way.

ESPN should say to Trump that they'll apologize right after Trump apologizes to Obama and the US for the birther lies, then keep going and apologize for all the other lies he's told.

Okay, I wouldn't miss Nordstrom.

Shoot, he could start with the Central Park Five. He still won't admit that he made a mistake with that advertisement.

So where are all those people who are claiming that ESPN is some super duper front for left wing politics? I mean, if they truly were, they would've said something to the effect of "We stand by Jemele 100% on her comments and will give her a raise for telling the truth."

And I hate to do the "if Obama was..." routine, but you didn't see him or his surrogates go around and say that "Anyone who made fun of me for anything I did is a racist, and I want them fired and arrested for a hate crime against me."

That's the best part.  Every time ESPN loses a subscriber, so does FoxNews...so ipso facto FoxNews is being dumped at records numbers because of Jamele Hill.

Racists absolutely hate being called racist. If you listen to enough talk radio, and you shouldn't, you'll understand that being called a racist is what makes a racist racist, therefore making those that call racists racists the real racists.

Got it? I can draw a diagram if you like.

Seriously.

Can you imagine if Obama went on TV and said "Donald Trump's birther allegations against me are racist and he should be fired from the Apprentice television program."

Like not hyperbole. If that really happened. I can't imagine how apoplectic the right would get. We'd still be hearing about it now, 8 years later.

I guarantee you Trump has no idea about what basic cable is, or that there even are tiers of cable subscriptions.  For as long as there has been cable TV, somebody has been writing a check for the premium cable package in Manhattan.  Every channel has always been there, isn't it that way for everybody?

If politics mattered so much to sports programming viewers, Fox Sports 1 and 2 wouldn't be in the "wait what number is that? Aww fark it's not even in HD?" zone for ratings.

Fox News would have broadcast live from the gates of the White House every day until huge crowds with torches showed up. Given their organization of Tea Parties it wouldn't have taken long.

Speaking as a sports fan, the most annoying thing about this (which is not cited in the article), is how a large chunk of sports fans are offended at the idea of any politics in sports.  Sports is going to have politics. There's no getting around that.  You cannot remove anything, especially something so entrenched in the culture as sports, from the context of the political, social, and economic system in which it resides.

So stop clutching your pearls.

Back in 2001/2002 that $4 per month is grossly understated.

That's because racists, like most conservatives (yes, there are some who are not themselves racists) have learned that being labelled a racist is shameful.  They haven't made the connection that being labelled a racist is shameful because being a racist is shameful.  Because they never make the deeper connections between words and what those words mean, they only recognize the shallowest surface of words and the responses those words get.

I think in this instance it's fine because Trump did call Obama a racist on twitter and Obama didn't whine to NBC to fire him.  This isn't dealing with a hypothetical.
