It's not very good.
Street Sweeper Social Club was way better.

2017-09-15 12:54:53 PM
Prophets of Rage have been together and touring since before the election.

2017-09-15 12:56:03 PM
And they weren't as good as they should have been.

An abomination against music as we know it?

2017-09-15 12:58:29 PM
I really dig their song 'Living on the 110'.

As a frequent commuter of the 110 freeway in Los Angeles, I can vouch that the homeless situation there is a true humanitarian crisis, and I applaud Prophets of Rage for calling attention to it.

However, I feel like Prophets turn a blind eye to the real victims here, the affluent commuters like myself traveling from their nice suburban homes to their white collar jobs downtown who get bummed out by all the suffering.  Hopefully, their future songs will approach social justice from all sides.

I have no doubt that the music is probably meh, but something tells me my tastes wouldn't align with a reviewer named Gwilym Mumford who looks like a school shooter in his profile pic.

The talented part of RAtM or the de la Rocha part of RAtM?

browntimmy: I have no doubt that the music is probably meh

I loved Public Enemy.  I thought RAtM was okay.  Cypress Hill had a few good tunes.

The video on the page just wasn't my cup of tea.  Not into the whole rap/rock thing any more, although there have been a few Transplants tunes that I have liked a lot.

Tangentially related to the subject of journalists recently talking shiat constantly about rap-rock and other artifacts from my childhood like cargo pants, I can't wait until I'm 50 and blasting 311 in my self-driving Hyundai-Benz AMG Elantra and all the teenagers I pass go "that Christian looks mad straight," which is an insult because antifa won the culture war and made everyone gay and Jewish.

2017-09-15 01:12:16 PM
Rage Against the Machine could be more relevant today than they were back in the early 90s.   They actually have a machine to rage against now.

No, because I remember Public Enemy and Anthrax doing 'Bring the Noise'.

Enjoy!

The fascist street gangs were actually heavily homosexual. Rohm and a bunch of his subordinates were gay.

Yeah, good stuff. Thanks!

But like all decent gays, they kept in the closet, dammit.

That was pretty good. I'll have to check more of that out. I thought it was going to be in the vein of Anthrax/Public Enemy or Biohazard/Onyx, but it's a level above.

The talented part.

And yeah they've been together since last year, they just put out their own original material vs covering each others songs.

I quite like this.

I always said that what destroyed RatM wasn't heroin or politics, it was that it is hard to rage at a machine that spits out $100 bills.

It is exactly the sum of its parts, too. If you told me that rage against the machine got together with Chuck D and the guy from Cypress Hill, this is exactly what I would have expected it to sound like. From the sound, this could easily be an out-take from Judgement Night sessions, recorded 25 years ago.

It was always a political band with political people in it.   Tom Morello (still one of my favorite artists) does activism tours as an acoustic folk player called "The Night Watchman" today.    He basically said what did it was that Zach didn't think they were radical enough.  So it was more like.

Zach:  NOW WE'RE GOING TO START THE REVOLUTION!!!"
Everyone else:  "How about we continue to advocate and speak out?  You know, 'truth to power' and all that?"
Zach: "Y U NO TRUE BELIEBERS?!!!!"

And for the record, Morello should have been the third guitar in "This Might Get Loud."   He does all the cool sonic stuff Edge does with the additional benefit of actually being able to play the guitar.

Tom Morello is a douche. He pulled the "Do you know who I am" card at a restaurant a few years ago. I thought he was better than that. Also, "Arm the homeless". Great idea Tom. I'm sure you'll let them right through the security gate of your LA mansion for a hot meal right?

That's probably one of the best soundtracks from that era. The movie, not so much.

That actually kind of is it...

RATM recorded some cover songs that they were going to include with their singles on the B-side. The rumor is that the band members that aren't Zack decided they like money, so they wanted to release those covers as an entire album (Renegades). Zack was always weird and he liked to take a lot of time off between albums, and the other members didn't like releasing an album every 4 years. Zack didn't like that they were going to release Renegades, and he was outvoted, so he left the group and the album was released shortly after their break up.

Supposedly there was a lot of stuff they didn't agree on, but that was the big one.

Like I mean a LOT.

Because that never got old.

I was rather disappointed that they were touring without any original material, so happy that they have finally gotten around to doing that. Haven't listened to the linked tune or anything else yet so will have to see what I think about it.
