It's a shiat town in the middle of a shiat state, but it does have some pretty cool art.  Thomas Hart Benton is one of America's greatest painters.  If you're every driving through what you should have flown over instead, I highly recommend stopping in at the Joplin town hall and taking a quick look at the mural there.

There's nothing wrong with her outfit.

I have bigger boobs myself (G size) and especially back when I was a teen it was difficult to find cute tops that didn't look like I was wearing a mumu. I was at the weird size where plus size was too big but regular size too small, especially in the chest area.

Her outfit is fine and is like the stuff I wore back then. Teacher was on a power trip and probably thinks she should be in a burka.

That shirt is very cute and there is nothing inappropriate about it.  It isn't even tight.  The jeans are awful, but that's not really the student's fault - it's almost impossible to find jeans for teens that are not "skinny" and "low rise" which looks good on exactly 1% of the population (and they are the ones that do the modelling of them usually).  The best way to see how the fashion has completely skewed the choices that girls have in pants is to look at a school that has the "polo and khakis" uniform.  All the boys are walking around in comfortable looking, relaxed fit khakis, and all of the girls are walking around in skin tight khakis.  Not because that's what they wanted, because that is all there is.  I spent months trying to find relaxed fit khakis for my step-daughter and couldn't find anything.  Even Dickies were "skinny, low cut" style.  My step-daughter is one of those girls that looks good in them (which bothered me even more, because a 7th grader's pants should not look like they were painted on her body).  She's a senior in high school now, and can wear what she wants, and still can't find pants that fit her properly.  She is very active in sports and has muscular thighs because of it.  However, her waist is a size 1.  Skinny jean that fits a size 1 waist are hugely uncomfortable on her thighs.  After much searching, I found some relaxed fit jeans that fit her thighs and had them altered to fit her waist.  They look comfortable, and she can move easily in them, but I have a hard time getting her to wear them because they look so vastly different from what all of her peers are wearing she feels out of place.

Of course, the distressing of the jeans is annoying - but that's a different story.  When I had holes in my jeans, it's because I earned them the hard way - not because I bought them that way.

The boys are going to have issues too. The latest trend at Target, Belks, and so on when I went to Santa Fe for pants shopping last month was skinny/straight leg dress trousers. With stretch banding around the waist. And 0% cotton.  And lower waistbands too, so they ground into my balls very uncomfortably. I bought trousers online instead.

Ex got teased relentlessly at school by the biatchy clique for being a larger girl, also things such as not having a father, being dorky and weird, dating a chubby guy, etc. It was always the tits and weight comments that were worst. Little girls may be made of sugar and spice, but teenage girls are made of venom-dipped barbed knives freshly forged in the fires of hell.

In my ex's case, teachers always pulled the kids into line if they heard anything. It's very sad in this case the teacher was the instigator. Even if the girl had violated dress rules, there's a right way and a wrong way to correct that.

TL;DR Stop body shaming her, dog tits.

CaptainOrangeCat: That shirt is very cute and there is nothing inappropriate about it.

This post useless without pics.

Not surprised. The mother sounds like a bit of a nutcase, one of these people looking to be offended. One who if the facts are as she says would be right in this case, but a nutcase just the same.

Administration definitely should have moved the kid regardless. A whole lot of stupid in the article.

With stretch banding around the waist. And 0% cotton.  And lower waistbands too, so they ground into my balls very uncomfortably. I bought trousers online instead.

I'm not even sure HOW normal boys FIT in the goddamn pants sold in chain stores. I'm so glad for the stretch waists coming back. My son is normal shaped (at least I assume he is), but everything's too tight around the thighs, tight through the crotch, loose as hell around the waist and hips... It's the worst. I think he wore sweatpants for 3 years solid.

Aside from that, the outfit of the girl on the left is much less school appropriate than Miss Barber's, in my opinion. What is her excuse?

I suspect a personality conflict going beyond looks.

I was listening to a couple female high school teachers chat at a coffeehouse the other day. They were talking about how sadistic the students are.  IMHO, they shouldn't stoop so low to be offended by what a student says or does. That's a sign of immaturity on the teachers' side.

You need to learn to identify FAKE NEWS.  My point was that TFA is so blatantly biased, you can't trust it's description of happened.  In other words, YOU DON'T KNOW the manner in which the teacher treated the student because the article has an obvious agenda that involves a financial benefit to the student and/or her mother.

Therefore, sexualize an underage girl in front of her classmates, giving them ammo to make her life a living hell for the rest of her days there, then discuss her tits in front of her mom. Great strategy. Got any more diagrams there, Oliver Stone, maybe placed over a map connected with push pins and string?

Of course, the distressing of the jeans is annoying - but that's a different story.  When I had holes in my jeans, it's because I earned them the hard way - not because I bought them that way.

Dress codes are farkin' stupid. Stop worrying about what the kids are wearing or doing with their own bodies, and farkin' teach them about English, History, Math, Biology, Chemistry, Civics, and other things.

Back when I was in public school there was no dress code. The administrators and teachers had better, more important things to do than obsess over whether someone's clothes were too tight, too short, too torn, or too offensively screen-printed. They never said one word to me, whether I was wearing torn jeans, or wearing ripped fishnets, a knee-length skirt, and combat boots. Not one word about my multi-hued hair, not one detention or demerit over my smeared lipstick and eyeliner. They might say "cool outfit" sometimes, but they never got all bent out of shape and sent me out of class.

The same goes for the girls. I saw lots of cleavage, lots of tight t-shirts, lots of bare midriffs (actually, it was the 80s, so that was also popular with some guys, too), lots of short skirts... And yes, it was titillating, but that was MY problem, not the girls' problem, and certainly not the teachers' problem to solve.

Even if the girl in this story was showing her midriff (which is probably why the teacher was going on about "plus sized" girls) it's NOBODY'S BUSINESS but the girl's. I absolutely hate it when people try to tell other people how to dress.  You can say you don't like it. You can say they look tacky or slutty or dirty or whatever... But punishment and trying to enforce a specific code of dress always offends me.

The sole exceptions are in a courtroom or when you agree to an employer's code of dress. Otherwise, if you're not standing before a Judge or getting paid to be there, it should be up to you how you choose to dress, and if people stare that's for you to deal with, too. It's nobody else's business.

The school dress code is No Boobs, bellies, or butts (im repeating what i saw on the Facebook comments, not my verbiage lol), and she was actually sent to the office for a bare midriff (oh the horror).
I'm not defending the school or teacher or any-such thing, but as a person whom likes to be objective, i do try to make sure the various sides are presented.

[Apple polishing omitted]

It is pretty clear from the pics, that its the same outfit she is wearing.

Well, yes, except the problem (such as it was) would have been easily corrected by having Miss Barber tuck her top in. Moreover, the dress code as a whole is clearly not consistently enforced.

I'm sure the teacher gets on great with Miss Wilson, but that just makes it look like favoritism. I remain convinced this is a personality conflict going beyond Miss Barber's choices of outfit---and her chest.

TelemonianAjax: rebelyell2006: CaptainOrangeCat: That shirt is very cute and there is nothing inappropriate about it.

I have t even thought about shopping for clothes at a Target in ten years for just that reason. I am not who their clothes are made for. At this point I am content with commodity-grade tshirts and disposable cheap Walmart pants.

Same here, at least in terms of denim pants. But I have an office job, so I am supposed to dress nicely.

WilderKWight: Dress codes are farkin' stupid.

My high school had a dress code, but administrators did not focus on enforcement. The teachers were told to use their best judgment and give out demerits to any students with violations as they came into class. In theory, if all teachers equally enforced the dress code each day, those demerits would quickly add up to a detention or two by the end of the day, and the student would have an incentive to change after the first class.

Same here, except it is "shirts I get sweaty while hiking" and "shirts I wear to work". The latter category also includes some dress shirts with my employer's logo, which does reduce my shirt-buying burden, and my hiking shirts can be the cheapest, thinnest long-sleeve shirts they carry at Walmart. I hate how the decent dress shirts at outlet stores (Van Heusen, etc) are more and more slim/fitted, because I actually have shoulders and shoulder muscles, and a gut, but the shirts would not fit even if I lose weight.

The proper term is "Boob Window", and that top has a tasteful one.

I have a lot of shirts like hers, even if the laces are completely undone they wouldn't show much more than what is in TFA. And even if she did expose a slight bit of belly it wouldn't be any different than what the low rise jean fad did.

I gotta say most school dress codes are arbitrary, even though I went to high school in the early 2000s the rules where never enforced well, especially when you where pretty and the male security guards gave 0 farks. We weren't supposed to wear a lot of things but it really depended on the teacher, what security guard/admin saw you, and how hot outside it was on any given day.

"The prisoner is generally tied to a gun with the upper part of the small of his back resting against the muzzle. When the gun is fired, his head is seen to go straight up into the air some forty or fifty feet; the arms fly off right and left, high up in the air, and fall at, perhaps, a hundred yards distance; the legs drop to the ground beneath the muzzle of the gun; and the body is literally blown away altogether, not a vestige being seen." - George Carter Stent

It really doesn't though.

Even without laces, it looks like she would have to be actively pushing her boobs together to see even a small amount of cleavage. The girl isn't super busty, and the shirt wouldn't be all that low even if it had no laces to it.

Mr Guy: I'm sure that's exactly how tight the strings were that control the cleavage when the teacher yelled at her.  No student has ever pulled their skirt higher, shirt more open, or rolled up their shorts to avoid dress codes, and then put it back when they got in trouble and claimed mistreatment.  That's unheard of.  It MUST be oppression.

So assume that was COMPLETELY unlaced. WHat'ya got?  At worst less cleveage than a trip to a Ren Faire provides...and, last time I checked Students don;t face TOWARDS each other, so even if something was a bit more on display only the teacher saw it.   The Mean Girl who tried to "bust her" is suggesting that because an inch of navel was showing in a picture of her IN THE BATHROOM, the dress code violation was okay...
