I know Donald and his supporters feel all big and powerful, since our country has the world's largest economy, but we did not get to having the largest economy by refusing to do business with other people.  Actually, it was probably the opposite of that.  Sad to see decades of effort washed away because a bunch of white supremacist want to wave their dicks at other countries.

Are you really supporting counties refusing to take back their own citizens who are convicted criminals here in the US?

Yeah, but I wouldn't rely on it.  Wouldn't be much fun running from place to place trying to find a willing vendor just because you left your visa card at home.  No idea why I still keep an Amex card.

Some people here reflexively attack anything the US does anymore.

Do you really think they would be refusing if this was about convicted felons?  This is about white supremacist deporting any brown people they can find, and being convicted of an immigration related crime does not count.

I could be wrong (won't be the first time today) but, it seems to me that more and more vendors are accepting AmEx these days. I can't remember the last time I did business with a merchant that didn't accept AmEx.

I mean, when we were just deporting felons and violent people, these countries had no problem working with us, for decades, but now all of a sudden they don't want to take back anyone?  There is only one thing that has changed, and it is who Trump and Sessions are trying to send back.

No, it's trolling 102, classic misdirection and goalpost moving.
He really wants someone to ask him for his source so he can pull up that one guy that was an exception and make the entire thread about that particular case. If nobody does, he might get frustrated and just start pasting the links with a very slight bit of context.

I come across a few online. I think their margins are so thin they can't afford it. IIRC, different classes of businesses are charged different rates to run an AMEX card. And it's higher than Visa/MC

The U.S. Embassy in Eritrea said in a statement that it will stop issuing business and tourism visas to Eritrean nationals, with "limited exceptions." Eritrean officials were not immediately available for comment.

This is effectively meaningless.  Eritrea is one of the few countries to require an exit visa which means anybody trying to leave the country has to get government approval.  Of course, anyone who gets out of Eritrea isn't keen to go back and so the government never issues them.  This is the country that loses its soccer team every couple of years when they defect en masse at international tournaments.  Even the few pilots they have routinely fly off to Ethiopia to get the hell out of Eritrea.

The country is effectively a prison.  This is a meaningless gesture, but I suppose it satisfies the kind of geopolitical know-nothing who will scan the headline and applaud that President Trump is gettin' tough on illegals from Eritrea who come here and and steal "their" jobs.  Unemployed coal miners can finally get that Eritrean restaurant job they've been holding out for.

Once upon a time all that was needed was someone who was of sound mind and body. There'd be some work to do for a person like that.

These days not so much. Sending people who are denied residency back is required to keep society going as importing people to be unemployed isn't a winning strategy.

Because then we lose our embassy in that country and and we risk our embassies in other places.  The cost to the US of keeping around cheap labor vastly outweighs the cost to the US of losing influence, prestige, and leverage in negotiation.

Your genius plan gets rid of 8 guys this one time before every other country gets wise to your scheme and puts the kibosh on it.  In exchange for that, China and Russia gain more leverage in the world, and with the speed China is moving into Africa and Russia is moving into Eastern Europe and Central Asia, we can't afford to lose any influence.

Bad idea, guys.

The big places are the only retailers who can afford to take American Express. The small businesses can not pay the cost of accepting these cards. The company charges merchants the administrative costs (plus a hefty profit). They carry the costs, not the card-holder.

My Father was refused American Express when he wanted it, so he refused American Express when they wanted him. Sorry. You snooze, you lose applies to dinosaurs as well as mice.

* semi-failed governments and states
* massive oppressed populations
*poverty. I said that one twice because I think it needs underscoring. Poverty.

Caller (terse tone):  You received a repayment offer from the Visa Mastercard Discover company last month.  Did you accept the offer?
Me: No, I never received any offer, and also, those are three different companies.
Caller: No they aren't!
Me:  And also, those companies don't actually lend any money, banks who use their cards lend the money.
Caller: (short pause) The Visa Mastercard Discover Company ....
Me (interrupting):  Doesn't exist.  I know, because I work for one of them.
Caller (authoritatively):  No you don't.
