How'd you pull that off at age 37? Incredible.

I find it amazing people will spend that much money on something like that.  To each their own, of course, but I can think of a gazillion better ways to spend $800.  Then again that guy probably doesn't need to replace a router/table like I need to.

Have the original. This new one is mostly cosmetic improvements and internal "playable areas"

Oh, and $300 increase in the list price. I paid $499 in 2007.

Great fun though with the kiddos...built it 3 times so far.

Some people spend their money on wine, or women.  Some spend it on charity, or political contributions.  Some spend it on model railroad sets or legos.

DON'T JUDGE ME!

As I understand it, though, this is the first Lego version that is "true to scale" and complete; you can seat 4 minifigs in the cockpit, it has the little medbay area, seats and such in the turrets, every known detail and internal space from the movies and then some from tech manuals and such just becuase they could.

To be fair:

The instructions let you build the set / model you bought.  They also give you some ideas of how to do similar things on your own designs.

I'd get a set, build it, take it apart, and build it again.  Then take it apart, and build my own thing, usually incorporating one "doodad" from the set.  Like one was a moon base that had a little monorail and a launch pad with an elevator.  I used the monorail to create a launch catapult for a "space carrier" and then the elevator to lower a rover bay / ramp.

True on the internal areas, but the original is also to scale and full cockpit, working turrets, and entrance ramp.

Lego did this to reduce the asking on eBay...the original in-box, untouched was going for $5000 because it was discontinued.

Now...not so much. And my college funding plan is out the window.

Wish I had the money.

Maybe one of these days I will get my DS2 back together.  It sadly did not survive a move.  Talk about fragile.

Not only is it $800...it's also kinda ugly...hard pass.

I read that as 'D2S' and envisioned a Lego bust of the d-bag. I was going to bet that the movers punched it in the face.

To be fair, blindly following directions is the favorite pastime of a significant portion of society.

I just put together the Saturn v set. Unfortunately it's too small to use lego mini-figures.

If it was "to scale" with the mini-figures, it would be about 8 feet tall.

They could have just made more of the 2007 boxed set if that were the case.

These sets will be hoarded and sold at great profit. I tried to buy one today. Lego.com had huge checkout glitches. The set is still in my cart but I can't check out.

I just tried to go to the Lego site. I got this error.

504 Server error
We are working on changing the fuses.

That made me laugh far more than it should have.

FTFA: "I do not recommend moving the Falcon too much because while it's beautiful, it's also very fragile"

So it's basically a model, not a toy. I like my Lego ships to be fun to play with and only break apart when I smash them into things because they got hit by the imaginary lasers and crashed.

Lego has always done a terrible job making their designs sturdy. That was first modification I'd make after finishing a kit.
