Surely everybody knows this, but just in case: DACA didn't "legalize" any of its recipients, it just made them eligible for potentially indefinite deferred action while allowing them to work. It also didn't provide them with a path to citizenship - it was always going to be tentative. Unfortunately these were the limits of doing things via executive order and not actually changing the U.S. Code.

chasd00: The whole thing makes me conflicted, see affirmative action as just another form of discrimination. I'd hate to be the administrator that has to tell some kid "hey look, you meet every academic and financial requirement to attend this school but you're just the wrong color". On the other hand, if you have an advantage over the next guy/gal then you better.farking.use.it.

Why should you be conflicted? White males have had their own affirmative action from legacy programs and scholarships through outright fark-you discrimination from before there was a country, and I'm sure not a gad-damn one of the people that got ahead by using these methods felt one tiny bit of guilt, remorse, regret or sadness that they were able to get what they got because of the color of their skin or ethnicity.
They probably though they got ahead because that's the way things were supposed to be, and many still think this way... that's why little asswipes like this whiner chose to report this young woman. The entitlement mentality is still strong with people like this guy.

Such small and rare advantages that exist for people of color - still dwarfed the way things have been forever that are mentioned above - have only existed for a little over half my lifetime. I'm old enough to remember when even newspaper want ads for jobs were segregated by race and by sex. Wasn't that long ago.

Damn right people of color should use whatever advantages they can get to get into school... because once in school they still have to do the work and measure up academically. And there should be no guilt or conflict involved what so ever.

Lol, Trump is pushing for a solution, but congress would rather sit on its hand, and do nothing so they can point to Trump and say it's his fault.
He is getting sued by states for not deporting these people.
Congress has had 5 years to do something about DACA, and have done nothing to keep these people from being in a state of limbo.
Hardly fair to bash Trump fro trying to bring an end to the situation, which he is only doing because he is under threat of a lawsuit from other states. You should be mad at Obama for creating situation and congress for perpetuating it instead of changing the laws to accommodate these people.

If you are a 2400SAT, 36ACT, with all honors and APs on your transcript and a diverse extracurricular life, you will not be passed over for "diversity" students. Most state schools will give you a full tuition scholarship just for acing one of the standardized tests.

Again, find me someone that thinks they were "passed over" as a white student with an impeccable academic record and I might buy that argument, but it's always some middling student with with a victim, never-my-fault personality that ends up shouting that some "colored" took their spot.

Sorry, no. If you're smart, you get in. Period. If you're a 75th percentiler, you might have some issues. Don't be a 75th percentiler, don't get mad when someone gets placed ahead of you.

Since when did liberals care about Americans? The average tax paying American can go pound sand because they are all "privilege" and white and racists who like Trump. See, that is how it works.

Why should the laws even matter? Hillary flaunted the laws, broke them and she is going around crying that she lost, but is making a ton of money selling a book about herself being a loser. Senator Menendez, the most corrupt politician in the senate, that is a low bar in itself, sadly, will probably get away with his corruption as well. But he will be easily be re-elected in the next cycle. Rule of law no longer applies, unless you are a hard working white tax paying American, then the rule of law will apply. Oh yea, don't forget to report the $800 you made on the side, or we will come after you like a thousand angry gods, ok peon?

Just like the snowflake in Texas who lost her case in one of the most conservative SCOTUS since the 1930, that not how any of this works.  Nobody is losing seats to affirmative action it DACA because of their status or race.

But I guess it's easier to complain and blame other people for your own failings then it is to pull up your bootstraps and figure out a solution.  I would find the irony of people who complain about stuff like this funny if they didn't turn to white nationalist groups to vent their frustration.

Illegal means you can be deported. DACA said here sign up every 2 years and you can work and we wont deport you even though you are here illegally.

No laws where changed ensuring legal status, you are still here illegally and at anytime DACA could be revoked or your application ( every 2 years)  denied then you will be deported

And the thought of that makes you happy? Why?

Personally... I know many illegal aliens working here, they are working for less money and doing jobs that my fellow citizens wont do .... Great people

Pumpkins lit on the steps of Old Morrison
There is a week-long celebration of Halloween by students known as "Rafinesque Week" in honor of the 19th-century botanist, inventor, and Transylvania professor Constantine Rafinesque. The university ends October with a unique combination of activities including a lottery for four students to win the chance to spend the night in Rafinesque's tomb.[34] The steps of Old Morrison are lined with pumpkins carved by students, faculty, staff, and members of the community around Halloween for what is called Pumpkinmania. In honor of Professor Rafinesque, the downstairs grill in the Mitchell Fine Arts Building is called the "Rafskeller" - a pun on the word Rathskeller.
Transylvania is also known for the Kissing Tree, a white ash tree that is estimated to be approximately 260 years old - 35 years older than the university itself. In the 1940s and 1950s, the administration turned a blind eye to students kissing in public near the tree, at a time when it was frowned upon elsewhere on campus.[35] Today, with the rules on public displays of affection slackened, students refer to the tree as the Kissing Tree. In 2003 The Chronicle of Higher Education included the Kissing Tree among the most romantic places on college campuses in America, and it was mentioned in a Wall Street Journal article about romance on college campuses.[36]

Aidan: FTFA: "this illegal at my school"

I'm not normally given to finding someone in real life and cockpunching them for something they said online, but young Taylor desperately needs a cockpunch.

The University board responsible deserves a course of cockpunches as well for suggesting that young Taylor's hateful statement was merely "a recommendation about how to respond to [Garcia's] undocumented status".

Not for nothing, it may be actionable slander.

She is not an "illegal". The status that this slur is imputing to her is inaccurate: what is typically meant by branding someone an "illegal" is that they intentionally entered the country without documentation, which is a misdemeanor.

Children (or in this case an infant) can't form intent, so she did not commit an offense when she was brought here. Moreover, the illegal act is entering the country, not remaining in it. So put simply, she never did anything that justifies calling her an "illegal".

Finally, while the constitutionality of DACA is open to question, it reflects current US policy so she is not subject to deportation. The ONLY reason for branding a Dreamer as an "illegal" is to make them a target for harassment, which is actionable.

She should sue his ass.

My point is that well-qualified students will always get accepted. Those who complain about not getting accepted whether it's because of their low-grades, middling test scores, or some made up fantasy about some brown person taking their spot are just failing to take personal accountability for their failures. You didn't get it because you weren't smart enough to get in. Don't point to someone else and say "they took my spot."

No, you lost your spot because you didn't achieve enough to obtain that spot in the first place.

Affirmative Action is the warring cry of people who weren't good enough to begin with.

And Trumpy is pure as the driven snow, amirite?  Never broke a law in his life.  Only brown people and women break laws!

/the derp is strong with you
//check your meds
///It's flouted, not flaunted.
