in any other administration, this sort of behavior would result in immediate expulsion from government service along with calls for investigations and jail terms.

but in this white house, its just another Thursday.  its not even remarkable anymore.  absolutely nothing will happen to these people.  there will not be any resignations, or investigations.  there will be maybe at most a vague non apology via twitter or facebook, followed by some boring charity dinner speeches and whatnot....but that's it.  NOTHING will happen.

oh if anyone had done this in Obama's administration, Fox News would be on 24 hour alert.  there would be non stop coverage, full court press on every democrat at every level, and people would be combing thru garbage cans looking for ANYTHING they could find to further embarrass the Obama administration.

but of course, this is Trump's white house.  so Fox News will mildly approve and then change the subject as fast as possible.

I don't think anybody asked about her honeymoon.

"Aw!!! Did you think this was a personal trip?! Adorable!"

The "adorable/I think it's cute when..." zinger is such a terrible zinger owing to its transparency.  I know you don't think it's "adorable".  I know that you're pissed that you got called out as evidenced by your 500 character rant.

It's as transparent as the guy who "doesn't care what you think" because, if you don't care what I think, why are you telling me that you would like me to think of you as a person who doesn't care what I think?  If you truly didn't care what I think, then you wouldn't say a damn thing to me at all.

I have no problem with them flying Space A (for the non-military types, that means hitching a ride on a jet that has an empty seat and happens to be headed where you want to go).  I hope whoever heard the initial request laughed in his face.

Perhaps he should buy a private jet.  It's not like he can't afford it.

Important (and funny, in this case...) note about Space-A from an Army Brat who has done so: sometimes you end up flying from Germany to the US in the back of a cargo jet with little to no sound insulation and not a lot of heat so you have to wear earplugs/protection for most of a day and bundle up to stay comfortable. ;P

A Treasury spokesman explained to ABC News that the reasoning behind the request was that Mnuchin, as a member of the National Security Council, needed to maintain secure line of communication with the White House while sipping aperitivos in Italy. "The Secretary is a member of the National Security Council and has responsibility for the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence," the spokesman said in a statement. "It is imperative that he have access to secure communications, and it is our practice to consider a wide range of options to ensure he has these capabilities during his travel, including the possible use of military aircraft."

My dad always referred to it as "catching hops", and it was often how we made our way back and forth across the Atlantic when I was a kid.  Never got to ride in any of the fancy private jets for the muckity mucks (though my folks did on a trip they took when I was a teen) but I was on one flight where some fighters were flying back, and was invited to watch some of the in-air refueling.  It's my absolute favorite childhood memory.

...no one remembers John Sununu? He was Bush's Chief of Staff, and an asshole quite happy to misappropriate government resources for personal use, particularly military jets, to the point where he finally had to resign after a series of high-profile fark-ups and subsequent mockery.

That's the thing. In previous administrations, this did, indeed, result in widespread condemnation and, ultimately, resignation. Here? He'll probably be feted by the Trump administration for his "savvy" use of government resources, while they tell us that he "deserves" it because, well, they won.

I've flown Space A several times myself.  The visual of Miss Priss sitting on a honeypot behind a shower curtain, shivering while going through turbulence cracks me up.

I agree - it is pretty cool to watch in-flight refueling.  One time, we had F-15 escorts at our wing tips.  Times like that I was very glad I joined the USAF instead of one of the other services.

From back in my fighter wing days:

I did that run!  After waiting a day and a half in Germany because the available space in our intended flight became unavailable on short notice.
