Dirk and Jenny have lived together happily for four years-so what if Jenny is a silicone doll?

Well, the 'so what' is that Jenny is not 'living' with Dirk, because she isn't alive.

And yes, as earlier farker said, dude is mentally ill.

Sane people scrape dried spunk off a plastic doll, while the insane have relationships with real people, smiling and drinking cocktails in restaurants? That's quite some false reality the authorities have created. I'll take it.

Is anyone here knowledgeable about the subject at hand, and can recommend books or websites about the phenomena of people (okay, men) who fall in love with inanimate objects (okay, sex dolls)? I find the idea fascinating and sad in equal measure.

What happens if you don't want the doll anymore? Is there a used market? Tossing it into the garbage could cause unwanted attention.

Lars and the Real Girl, the movie the pic I posted above is from, is as good a place to start as any. It's fiction, but it's not treated as a joke or worked for stupid comedy.

Let's see...
I started in life as PVC pellets,
so perfect, hygienic and clean.
Came sealed in a package,
unused and unopened
like a virgin if you know what I mean.

Girls and ladies I've fallen,
Dirk used me ungently,
dark things that vexed me,
both physically and ment'lly.
A patch kit won't fix what I've seen...

Everybody now,

I'm Jenny the love doll
my vinyl has finally
given in to the sins of the flesh.
Sweet Jenny they called me,
before I was crusty, I was
so sweet and so free.
But now that's all over,
my life's a disaster.
A superfund site gots nothing on me.

I'm on the fence. I choose to live alone because I find other people stifling, and a wake of crying, angry women haunt my past. I have no desire to fill that void with a large doll, but people have told me that I should be in therapy to deal with my "issue" of having no strong desire to live with someone or pursue relationships long enough to where that would be a thing.

I do think this could get really ugly when the doll's body starts truly breaking down, unclear how he'll deal with her "death".

But aside from all of that, he seems to be functioning in society. Must have a job, has a kid, has a normal past with women. I don't think any interdiction is needed.

I totally agree. Consenting adults can do what the hell they want, as long as it doesnt negatively affect other people.

And not wanting to be in a relationship with another human being is not abberant. Your friends are idiots (sorry).

However, this guy on some levels believes this doll is alive. We're all tethered to reality to a greater or lesser extent. I am firmly tethered; my husband less so. He's suffered some mental health stuff in the past where he had no grip on reality and it is frightening stuff.

The guy in the article is not in touch with reality. It's manifesting in a currently harmless way (we think), and at the moment this fake reality only concerns this doll (that we know of). But I think rejecting reality is a habit, and if there's no one around you (human!) to provide a consistent message and keep you on the straight and narrow ... I don't know what would happen to a person under those circumstances...
