Yes. The president will be seen as a good, virile, and handsome person if he adopts a more Democratic platform. That platform makes him look thinner, too.

Only because most Republican voters are unthinking followers of whatever authority figure they have latched onto and will reflexively support anything he does and only then begin the process of rationalizing their support.

That's not what was asked.  FTFA

"A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 66% of Likely U.S. Voters say it is good for the country if Trump works with congressional Democrats to advance his agenda."

In other words, so long as the Democrats vote for Trumpy's latest ragetweet in the form of a bill, it's good.

Now, the real question is given just how incoherent Trump is most of the time, if he started tweeting out things like support for single payer would his minions notice that he's aligning with the Democrats or would they just assume it's his latest brilliant idea.

It took the minority Democrats to fund disaster relief and keep the government from crashing and burning for another three months.  Not sure how that bodes well for Trump and being able to work with his own party.

Strategically, it means that if the Republicans want to advance their agenda, they'll need to cozy up to him more aggressively and to hold the internal line to prevent the Democrats from blocking that agenda.

Daaahmn, Pelosi and Schumer are on fire in the last fee days!

2017-09-13 10:18:42 PM
I have a feeling that both Republican and Democratic Congressional support of big business interests, giving in to lobbyists, and directing the legislative agenda towards the rich and powerful is alienating the common populace of America on both sides. We care about things more common to our interests: infrastructure, the cost of healthcare, the economy's impact on our lives and wallets, and the ability to live our lives as we wish.

Though I have no doubt that Trump's inexperience and temperament will preclude anything that actually benefits Americans from being accomplished, his core message was a populist one: create more jobs, provide economic certainty, and do something about our frustrating and costly healthcare system. He promised high and delivered (and will continue to deliver) low, but his constant struggles with Congressional leaders prove that he's not on their side.

Alas, he's not on our side either. He's only on one side--his own--but the electorate failed to recognize a con man where they saw one, and bought his populist message wrapped in a soggy tortilla of racism and fear.

Trump may not be much of a president, but he's a hell of a salesman.

Well the Democrats seem to have found a way to make deals with Trump directly.  Pelosi and Schumer seem to be able to get legislation to Trump's desk.

Personal connections mean a lot in business. It's a different game from straight politics where power balance means a lot more.

Schumer has long connections with Trump, and he seems to understand how to build relationships with him. Pelosi is probably along for the ride, imo.

Possibly, Pelosi is a renowned deal maker, as speaker didn't she never lose a vote?  You make good points about Schumer though.

Yes, this was a good thing. Don't mistakenly think this is a pivot, though. Donald Trump is still a dangerous moron in a position of power that he is wholly unqualified to handle, and this is just the rare instance of his blundering incompetence not completely farking people over. Keep in mind, before this, he was still trying to build a giant monument to racism along the border, he kicked trans-people out of the military because they're icky, he tried to keep Muslims from coming into our country, and he told all of our Mexicans to pack their bags and leave.

Something, something, broken clock, something, something, twice a day.

It'd be hilarious if his followers started thinking "hey, them thur Dems are givin' Trump what he wants, and the GOP aren't! Let's stiggit to 'em!". Then they all pull down the D-lever during the midterms, we end up with a fully Democrat Senate, Congress, and House Of Representatives, which sets the Impeachment Train in motion (because, let's be real, the GOP will probably be reluctant to do it no matter the case). Much hilarity, angry confusion and lulz from the diehard Trumpers will ensue.

Wouldn't any deal with the Dems to protect DACA mean that some significant number of Repugs would have to vote for it too? How can Pelosi/Schumer promise on that, without Repug votes? Can they even get it through Congress without McConnel/Ryan allowing it through?

Hell, we was a lifelong Manhattan liberal and a supporter of the Democratic Party for at least 25 years before running, yet that didn't stop his followers from noticing that he switched to Republican literally overnight once he smelled the rubes.
