where 50 or lower is considered good ping, and 100 is on the outside edge of acceptability.

I used to get 30ms pings on 56k dialup to quake 2 servers*

On cable now I get around 50 ms to most multiplayer servers.

100 ms, YUCK!

/*/ my ISP hosted the Quake 2 servers and they were literally about 10 miles north of me, it was great.

76's ult really punishes everyone who can't block or move quickly. Trash-mouse definitely can move(fly), but it usually just makes him an easier target.

I play a lot of floaty Zenyatta and he's even worse. I've learned you have to be 100% conscious of the terrain and stick to edges and corners at all costs so you can break LOS as quick as possible. Basically play like a shellshocked WWII soldier, terrified of snipers.

Still, Junkrat doesn't stand up in a fair fight vs most heroes, especially not 76. Make it an unfair fight and be in locations he can't ever get to.

In fairness, average human reaction time to visual stimuli is usually approximated around 200 - 250 ms in tests similar to what you'd be doing in a video game (e.g. see a light, press a mouse button).  So 100 ms lag isn't necessarily "twice as bad" as 50 ms.  And Overwatch is intentionally designed to be much less of a twitch game than previous shooters to begin with... I usually don't have actual issues playing until it hits 150+ personally.

And this doesn't even get into the whole argument of a slow tick rate, where ping and reaction times matter even less.

I had 20 ms on cable until they were (yet again) acquired by another company. After the switch, my ping immediately jumped to 80-100 ms. I'm farking pissed.

Considering the only thing Kotaku had to say about African cities was that there aren't any with Overwatch servers, I'm eager to hear what you thought they said.

I'd disagree on that. At higher levels, maybe. But I'm a high gold (low diamond on a good day) and I feel pretty confident in my ability to 1v1 most characters with Junkrat. Maybe not a couple months ago, but with the mobility 2 mines gets you, you should be able to kill just about anyone else and be gone before they realize you're even there.

Dialup was low bandwidth. Ping doesn't have much to do with bandwidth.

If you're on dialup and playing on game servers that are hosted by the same ISP (IE, literally in the same building), the ping is going to be really low.

/100ms is 1/10th of a second

It's not the bandwidth, it's the modulation that gets you. I never saw 30ms on dialup, not even dialing into the university modem pool a couple blocks from where I was sitting.

Well you'd probably know better than me, cause I'm a filthy casual.

But how do you think junkrat fares in a 1v1 where you don't have the drop on them? If I got any sort of hitscan or I'm pharah I feel pretty good about backing away and keeping fire on him.

It really depends on initial distance and cover availability. Across a long empty field? Yeah, I'm probably dead. Mid to close range or somewhere I can suck into cover and mine in an unexpected direction? I'm feeling pretty good.

And few things bring me as much pleasure as knocking pharas out of the sky. With the two conc mines now, I can usually bounce up (or close) to a Phara and use the second one to knock her down to ground level to finish her off.

To be fair, Numbani hasn't been built yet.

Serious answer though.  While I haven't looked into them for awhile, know at least at one point there were offical (or at least offically licensed) World of Warcraft servers in South Africa.  So if Blizzard does launch Overwatch servers in Africa it will probably be there.

Tried Deathmatch for the first time last night.... and that's the last time I try Deathmatch.

By the time any of the other players find each other and try to engage, Tracer and Genji have already ran through at warp speed and KO'd them all.  And whoever survives that gets picked off by ricochet arrows from the Hanzo hiding in the corner.

Fark that noise.  I'm going back to QP and Mayhem.

Random Heroes is the one true dicking around mode.

I feel like I'm actually a better player after playing it nonstop for 2 months.

I'm fairly sure Blizzard uses AWS for their servers (at least mostly) and if you look here, Africa is not really covered at all.
