I may have to check out this Jemele Hill. She sounds like someone I'd enjoy listening to.

I had a friend last night tell me he was tired of watching ESPN and hearing politics. He said he wanted to watch sports and not be bothered by politics.

I got it. I understood. I didn't reply. I just thought of this, which, at the time, was political:

ESPN. Proud home of the "how will it play in Peoria" network execs.

Not being a sports nut I missed this until today; I read a post shared that contrasted the suspension of their long-serving female anchor (for criticizing some expensive business decisions and alienating some core viewers) with Hill's slap on the wrist.  It took me a little bit to realize that "outkickthecoverage.com" was a right-wing sports blogger, because I didn't know we needed partisan sports coverage.

Anyhow, this conservative sports analyst was obviously mad about Hill's lack of punishment while also somehow mad about a private business expecting its employees to not sh*t on the company in public interviews.

Me? I find them to be apples and oranges but it sounds like ESPN has been f*cking up quite a bit lately.

I really like her.  I don't watch a ton of ESPN but she's pretty smart and calls them like she sees 'em.  even if i disagree from time to time.  she's not a bombthrower/clickbaiter like Stephen A Smith of what's his nuts, Bayless, that jumped to Fox.

that said, ESPN looks stupid.  Schilling got fired for political opinions, and regardless of wehter you are 100% in favor of or disagreement with she said, ESPN is treating people differently for the same behavior.  bascially another reason to dislike ESPN.

Schilling got fired for being a jackass about his politics - he had several warnings prior to his last warning, which I think was about NC's bathroom law and posting some meme about transgender people.

Jemele hadn't posted some meme about how "crackers be crazy" or said that Christianity sucks. She directed her tweet about Trump alone.

"The comments on Twitter from Jemele Hill regarding the President do not represent the position of ESPN. We have addressed this with Jemele and she recognizes her actions were inappropriate," spokesman Josh Krulewitz in a statement, per The Sporting News.

Krulewitz went on to describe the network's official stance: that Mr. Trump is too selfish to be a white supremacist per se, that if he could make a buck by selling every last white person on Earth into slavery, he'd do it in a heartbeat.  "You know I'm right," Krulewitz added.

One of these articles on this subject mentioned the vitriol directed at Hill, Michael Smith, Bomani Jones, and Stephen Asshole Smith.

They may have to deal with racism, but the article tried to portray all of them as "smart." I mean, that is really unfair for those three to be compared to Stephen Anus Smith.

Outkickthecoverage just has a preference for a specific type of athlete. They don't care about athleticism, what they need is a locker room leader, someone with that player-coach mentality. They want a guy who is the first one in, last one out, lots of hustle on their favorite players. You need a good sports IQ to be on their radar. A gym rat with all the intangibles that make the team better. Is it wrong to desire a scrappy guy?

Now on the other hand, they really really really hate those fiery/firecracker guys. And they definitely don't want anyone who is a class act coaching their squad.

Why should he? Any time he tries, people either criticize him for not being a non-white supremacist sooner, or accuse him of faking it.  You ain't helping by demanding he do something you're never going to believe he's gonna do anyway.

Yes there's an obvious overriding PC aura to everything ESPN does, so it's not surprising that there a double standard here - get much less flak for firing Schilling than they would get for firing Hill.

But ESPN is a private company and can fire whom they want.  Plus schilling was pretty much a douchebag while people seem to think Hill is at least competent.

This is the f*cking point, folks.

ESPN personalities will, at worst, be suspended for saying something about a person. They will also allow their personalities to get away with a lot behind the scenes. But, if you continuously make a live show your personal pulpit, against large swathes of people, you're gonna have a bad time.

Some jackass reporter asked her the question - with North Korea, DACA, flooding - why did he ask her how Trump reacted about a sportscaster on a failing network said about him?

She said he probably didn't know - so, followup - how do you feel about it?

Really kind of sad coming to FARK anymore - maybe 15 to 20 comments per thread - all the same circle jerk you see everywhere in the media - conservatives were always only about 10% of the posters but now it's just a bunch of people patting each other on the back.

She does from time to time. Putting her on Sportscenter was stupid, as she's not a very good fluid broadcaster and it seems that show (among others) has become a way for Disney affiliates to make money off of ESPN even during the non-commercial minutes.

But she, nor Michael Smith, nor even Bomani Jones are responsible for this drop in ratings. Even Whitlock (when he was there), who isn't sure which side to racebait anymore, isn't responsible for that.

Other things, such as Screaming Analbeads Smith? Sure.
