Not so sure about that, it certainly worked for me in A.A.

She needed two more years in Nationwide.

She's always been prone to bad luck, but nowhere did it hit her worse than Nationwide.

She needed trucks, then Busch, then Cup.

But, she had money and an audience NASCAR wanted to tap into.

However, without performance, she lost the sponsors, and she got the ax for Smithfield over Kurt since Kurt is still running decently.

I thought Smithfield wanted Almirola.  He's out of RPM after this year - figured they'd be pushing for him to get into SHR.

Smithfield is definitely going to SHR. And Almirola might wind up in the 10. But it's unknown if the Petty contract will allow Smithfield to sponsor Almirola with another team immediately.

The better way to put what I said is if Danica had full sponsorship for next year, Kurt probably would have gotten the ax instead to make room to keep Smithfield happy. But, she doesn't, the results aren't there, so who do they keep? The Daytona 500 winner or the... um... one who runs 25th?

Well, of course that one's clear as day.

How the hell did Kurt lose his sponsorship, anyway?  Says something about NASCAR when that happens.

She didn't win in karts
She didn't win in Formula Ford
She didn't win in Barber/Dodge
She didn't win in Toyota Atlantic
She won one race in Indy Car (a matter of luck as much as anything)
She didn't win in Nationwide
She didn't win in Nextel/Sprint/Monster

There are four reasons she's lasted as long as she has....two tits, one ass and a willingness to flaunt them.

It has fark all to do with her being a female, it has to do with her being a shiatty driver that's been given way more chances than her talent deserves.

/and then today, she basically threw SHR under the bus and said "I want to go to a team that will really support me"

Kurt never really had any sponsorship except for Monster, and it's been said they got the title sponsorship for the entire series for the price of a full season car sponsorship... and they supposedly aren't happy with their return on that already.l and may be gone before 2018.

So, Kurt might not have Monster next year, leaving him and Danica in the same boat.

But in comes Smithfield to shore up Itchy and Almirola (maybe), so Kurt might re-sign at a smaller salary and Danica already lost her smile.

always love telling the story of when she was on Carolla podcast few years back.  interview is ending, carolla: "yeah, hey, how's your husband, John?  I had so much fun when you guys drove me around the track!  That was awesome!  how is he?  tell him I said hi!"

danica: "........umm............he's *singsong voice* gooooooooooooooooooooooood.  um....I gotta go, bye!"

about a week later, all over the internet:  "NASCAR's Danica Patrick files for divorce from her husband Johnny Slapnuts, citing irreconcilable differences...."

Yeah, that's not surprising at all.  I think the one race I've watched in full since the season started was the Daytona 500.  This stage shiat has to go, and the Chase has to go.

Lets be honest here, without being Dale Jr and performance, she lost sponsors.  Dale can run worse than his nephew and still be called one of the greatest by his fans.  He can go years without a win, and still pull more sponsorship money than both Busch brothers.

..so what exactly is going on with Smithfield? I don't quite understand the whys of their move to SHR other than the angry old man rant Richard Petty gave about how handshake agreements used to mean something.

She tried, but I think she always knew what she really had to do. Make a Jackload of F.U. retirement money, which she did, a goal she has admitted to in the past. Enjoy the rest of your life girl.

Eh, others got my drift, but for those that didn't, I meant my dislike of her as a race car driver has nothing to do with her being a female. It stems from the aforementioned four reasons.

2017-09-14 09:35:41 AM
I really wanted to see her succeed on the track.  I thought it would be great for NASCAR if a woman ran well and won a race or two each year.
Too bad it didn't happen though.  My impression over the years was that she kept coming up short and kept finding reasons it was because of someone or something else.
Oh well, someday they'll be a drive that kicks ass and also happens to be a female.

I'll give her credit for apparently being smart enough to take care of her financial career.

2017-09-14 10:06:02 AM
I guess I'm gonna have to post this in every Danica thread, which there'll likely be fewer of now.

She's -not- a bad driver.. she never would have gotten this far if she was. There are 10 drivers on the track each week less talented than her. She really -does- seem to have inexplicable luck in getting caught up in others' messes.

There are two main issues with her: one is the attention and sponsorship opportunities she got disproportionate with her talent. She can't feasibly do anything about that (is she supposed to go "no, don't sponsor me, I don't deserve it"?) and it'd be silly NOT to capitalize on it. This does, however, lend to the perception many have that "she's only there because she's a woman" and that she's somehow holding other, more deserving drivers down.

The other issue is her personality, which comes through as entitled and biatchy. Sure, you could say the same thing about Kyle Busch, but Kyle Busch gets results. Unfairly or not, Danica has to work that much harder to avoid that perception and didn't succeed.

That's one more than DeLana Harvick but fewer than Samantha Busch or Paige Keselowski.
