The Eternal Second Amendment, Hallowed Be Its Name, guarantees the NRA-given RIGHT to protect one's self against the transgressions of a derelict government. Our government is DEFINED as by 'of the people, for the people, by the people', one of which is obviously this homeless person aka 'derelict'. Ipso Facto:

It was Ms Duckcrotch's Constitutional DUTY to eradicate that dangerously out of control government element before he grabbed her gun, levied a stamp tax, or commandeered her Porsche for accommodation for his army of homeless dog.

raygundan: BigSquibowski: Seems to me the latter group has given up on society and feel it's not worth protecting.
The former group just wants to be left alone and believes in upholding the social contract.

Nah, the latter group hasn't given up.  Both believe in the social contract.  The "give up" people realize you can't prop up a social contract on your own with locks and guns.  This explains both the before and after for them: before, they never felt like they had a "safe bubble" because they know the social net is imperfect and that trying to physically secure yourself is mostly futile.  After the robbery, they understand that there's no quick fix, either physically or socially.   Any solution to the problem will have to be social-- even if the social solution is "everyone is now armed, takes watch shifts, and agrees to shoot robbers."

Saying "nothing can change that" was perhaps a bit glib and oversimplified on my part.  What I should have said there was something more like "there's nothing you can do alone to change this."   Arming yourself can't fix a social problem.  That requires a social fix.

But none of this was to argue that one of the options (gun or no gun) was better than the other-- just to try to explain why some people don't experience that brutal "loss of sanctuary" after a robbery.  They didn't think they had sanctuary, and they don't believe it's something you can achieve alone.  So they don't feel the loss, and they don't see buying a gun as a fix-- but that doesn't mean they don't see the problem and want it fixed.  It means they saw the problem before the robbery, too.

Look at the big brain on raygun. Are you new around here? Reasonable and thoughtful posts on fark just make us  think you're hiding something.

Fled the scene too... as is the "responsible gun owner" thing to do.

Fleeing the scene after shooting someone in self defense is actually reasonable and rational.  You don't know the guy is dead, you don't know that he doesn't have friends that heard everything happen and are on their way to help.

Now, this leaving the scene also requires immediately calling the cops, informing them there's a guy bleeding, you did it, it was self defense, you didn't feel safe staying at the scene, and as soon as the cops show up you'll come right back so they can take your statement.

It was stated that she actually "drove back to drop her friend off at her car and that she was surprised" to see that it had turned into a crime scene.

Considering Florida has said its self-defense to drive home, get your gun, drive back, and then shoot the guy who was "threatening" you by being black and playing that hippty-hop music without even knowing you existed, she may have a case.

Don't forget.
You can walk in on someone robbing your house, the robber can drop what they have and run away.  You can chase them for 3 blocks, corner them, and force a confrontation.  At that point, you fear for your life and have to stand your ground and shoot the bad man.

As it should be. There would be no risk of a confrontation if the human garbage was not in your house taking your shiat. You steal, you started the chain of events. Don't break in, don't get shot-easy peasy.

The word still would have been used five (or however many) times. It has nothing to do with the genetic makeup of the defendant.

A person is alleged to have done a thing until CONVICTED of doing that thing. Even podunk newspaper people are aware of this and will not state that "Jim-Bob Cletusson shot Billy-Bob Cletusson" until Jim-Bob is convicted.

News orgs would quickly be sued into oblivion if they did not take pains to indicate that so-and-so is alleged to have done X unless and until convicted.

Bullets are pretty expensive, as well aren't  they?

Shooting the homeless is definitely more efficient than burning them... Doesn't have that nouveau riche flair for cruelty and complete disregard for the poor and destitute, though. : )

A box of handgun ammo will costs more than a gallon of gas, but the cost per bullet is less than a gallon of gas.

Well, now I'm going to need a full cost analysis...

The Nazis probably did a few, but the data is well out of date at this point. : D

Well, the typical self defense round usually cost $1-1.50 per round. Since she shot him twice, let's just call it $2.50. I filled up my gas tank yesterday at $2.35 a gallon. So, in conclusion, a gallon of gas would have been slightly cheaper.

Did he actually use those words?  "Decided to get out of the car and fire"?  And he's a lawyer?  I bet he advertises on TV.

"Have you been implicated in a shooting?  Don't call the police, call Quackenbush & Associates & Sons.  We can help.  We can plead self defence in almost any situation, and sometimes temporary insanity and emotional distress, and only occasionally guilty with an explanation, but only if the judge doesn't look like he's buying it.  And if we don't win, you only pay half!  Don't wait, call Quackenbush & Associates & Sons at 1-888-GO-QUACK, that's 1-888-GO-QUACK, don't trust your freedom to anyone else unless maybe you don't have money.  Call today, or as soon as the victim stops screaming!"

Thanks for elaborating. I see what you mean and agree with most of it.

Still not worth STUFF, no matter what that stuff is. Killing another human is not worth throwing my life away over stuff.

Considering Florida has said its self-defense to drive home, get your gun, drive back, and then shoot the guy who was "threatening" you by being black and playing that hippty-hop music without even knowing you existed, she may have a case.

Not exactly as you described, but you may have been thinking of this:
http://blogs.findlaw.com/blotter/2012/03/fl-man-cleared-in-stand-your-ground-stabbing.html
Garcia chased the alleged car-radio thief -- Pedro Roteta, 26 -- for more than a block, the Herald reports. Roteta, carrying a four-pound bag of car radios, swung the bag at Garcia's head; Garcia blocked the bag with one hand and stabbed Roteta in the chest.
Roteta's swinging of the bag could have caused serious bodily injury or death, and placed Garcia in fear for his life, the judge wrote.
Still, after the fatal stabbing, Garcia did not call 911. Instead, he hid the knife and sold two of Roteta's car radios, then initially denied the killing when interviewed by police. None of those facts played into the judge's decision.

SYG is a f*cked up law. Castle doctrine and existing self-defense laws provided adequate coverage for actual SYG instances. The above-referenced case, Zimmerman, and maybe this girl, now? Not standing their ground. If you follow someone, run after them, or exit your vehicle to confront, YOU are the instigator, at that point. I really don't see how a judge could honestly rule 'self-defense' in those cases, but they did, thanks to SYG laws on the books.

While waiting for the bus maybe back in February or March of 2016 I was having a smoke when a (non-homeless from appearances) guy walked up and asked me for one. Taking out a cigarette at a public bus stop is almost as bad as opening a bag of Skittles in elementary school because you're going to get swarmed like an amateur white housewife in a BBC hotel gangbang shoot.

I don't mind handing out a smoke but they add up so the standard price at least here in Ohio seems to be fifty cents for a bummed one. I don't think anybody had asked me yet prior to one fellow wandering over but since the fellow couldn't even be bothered to say "please" I said I needed fifty cents for one. He started biatching and digging into his pockets like he was going to get it but he wasn't really so much as getting the money as buying time to wear me down. Once it became apparent he wasn't going to pay me I flat out told the guy no.

Ooooooh boy, that guy started cussing me out and repeatedly made comments about how I was like then private citizen Donald Trump because I wouldn't give him a smoke. I wish I could remember all the stuff he said because he went on for two minutes or so just yelling shiat out about how I was Trump.

It was somewhat surreal but the guy probably would have been handed a free smoke if he hadn't acted like I owed him one. I'll never understand people who don't realize the power of "please" and "thank you," you want somebody to do you a favor and can't even be bothered with the minimum standards of courtesy?

Fleeing the scene after shooting someone in self defense is actually reasonable and rational.  You don't know the guy is dead, you don't know that he doesn't have friends that heard everything happen and are on their way to help.

Now, this leaving the scene also requires immediately calling the cops, informing them there's a guy bleeding, you did it, it was self defense, you didn't feel safe staying at the scene, and as soon as the cops show up you'll come right back so they can take your statement.

/and again, since it's Texas and daddy is a lawyer, coont won't

His strongest argument is that she was threatened.

It'll fall apart once the prosecution points out she was safely in her car and could've easily left. Instead she got out and shot the guy twice, apparently with her eyes closed.

We'll see

/More than she did, obviously
//It's still Texas

Actually, it's Tennessee.  She and Daddy Law are from Texas, but she shot the guy in Nashville

Ah, I misread that, thank you

/Thank God she didn't shoot him in the Chatanooga
//both painful and messy

Considering Florida has said its self-defense to drive home, get your gun, drive back, and then shoot the guy who was "threatening" you by being black and playing that hippty-hop music without even knowing you existed, she may have a case.

Wookie_Jesus: alleged was used 5 time is a sparsely worded 5 paragraph article. i wonder how many times that word wouldn't be used if she were a darker shade of "presumed innocent"

Well, to be honest, if she were DSoPI, the cops would have shot her with their eyes wide open, and "alleged" would have no practical meaning in the scenario.
