"Hard line, pro-tax relief for the rich conservatives" That is a standard GOP position. Nothing at all hard line about it.

Actually. They are very fair. They are even willing to let the rich liberals enjoy the tax cuts as well. Very good people. The best. Really. Believe me.

I think Cohn was actually a registered Democrat before the election, but he's definitely in the White House to slash regulations and cut taxes.

Under Obama: "REDUCING AND ELIMINATING THE DEFICIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THE WORLD. NO NEW SPENDING, NO NEW DEBT."

Under Trump: "DEFICIT NEUTRAL TAX REDUCTIONS ARE FOR JABRONIS. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT FOR EVERY TAX DOLLAR CUT, THERE'S A CORRESPONDING $8 BILLION INCREASE IN AMERICAN GDP."

Conservatives are wondering if Gary Cohn and Steven Mnuchin will work to keep the GOP's right flank happy on tax reform rather than appeal for Democratic votes to get a package passed.

Despite Trump's innumerable faults and rank idiocy, it has dawned on him that he cannot rely on the GOP to get shiat done, not after they fumbled health care. I think he's perfectly happy to cut the far right out of the equation by wooing democrats. He's got all of their voters in his thrall anyhow, so they can't go after him.

Isn't the goal to get a budget passed in Congress, not to get a budget passed in Congress that only one party supports?

Trump appears, kills Krillin. Tremble Democrats! This is not even my final form!

They should have thought of this before having a lifelong Democrat run the party.

They say this because some of the people rendered homeless by Mnuchin's foreclosures were white?

Is there actually a tax rate under which even the most hardline Republican would not go under ? Or is their ultimate to actually transfer money directly from the US coffers to the rich people's bank accounts ?

This phrase implies that the rich are taxed at any rate that would encumber them to the point where they require relief from some burden. Stop using this.

The whole "income" tax thing is a farce....  all the lefties foam at the mouth about "tax cuts for the rich" but in reality the real rich aren't burdened by income tax...  buffet goes on and on about how he can pay more income tax knowing full well he'd balk and scream if we started taxing his real wealth and holdings.   Income tax is for the peasants....   the real rich don't pay serious tax on their wealth.

Peasants can't take advantage of all the same breaks because peasants don't have millions in assets, real estate, hedge funds, stocks, etc.   People who call for increased income tax on "the rich" are actually calling for increased income tax on the middle to upper middle class.   Since when is $200k household income per year "rich"?

Y'all are getting so played by people like Buffett.

I'm reminded of that time in college, in a multivariable calculus class, where some idiot was SURE that progressive taxation meant getting a raise would LOWER his take-home pay. No amount of explanation would convince him otherwise.

Guessing that guy is flipping burgers today

Republicans in congress can't even put their shoes on the right feet. They hold majorities in both houses and are so dysfunctional it's breathtaking.
"There better not be a curveball coming up" said Virginia Republican Dave Brat, who has served in the house for less than three years and couldn't hit a curveball if his life depended on it.
"We don't want our president and his administration moving all over the place away from Republican principles," Brat added, speaking from beneath the rock where he has been living since taking office.

Tax cuts for the wealthy isn't going to pass, so tax cuts for the lower and middle classes it is.  President Trump needs to sign some major legislation, and he really doesn't care what's in it.

edmo: The GOP continues its meltdown

We said that during GW's 2nd election cycle. We said that while Florida recounted votes in 2000. We said that for birther and then the teatards who rallied with the Tea Party who ended up claiming seats. We said that in 2016 with Hillary.

Sure. There have been successes along the way, but far more failures.

Then again, the Freeper types like to mock us with the exact same "Haw-haw" sentiment while not seeing their own empire fall.

*sigh*

All I am saying is give reason a chance.
