"If people actually believe that a Confederate flag stands for slavery, well, I might as well be just as stupid as they are."

Great news! You're far dumber by miles.

Also, learn the history of that racist rag you're flying, shiat kicker.

The real problem here is that for this man and the sort of people who support his causes, this is what passes as cutting satire.

"You all thought all I was a stupid, uneducated, vile and bigoted racist because of my flag. So I hung up a sign showing me to be a stupid, uneducated, vile and bigoted racist over my flag. But jokes on you, 'cause I'm just acting like one. So, ha. Now apologize and I'll consider taking it down, and you better hope I never have to teach you another lesson."

Somebody has to explain to these people they they aren't "Taking it back".

Nobody cares what you want it to mean. You may be proud of your ancestors for being traitors to the USA. But that flag = Racism. Full stop.

It never existed in that exact form in the civil war. It was created in that form during the Jim Crow era to dog whistle racism. It is used by racists all over the world to clearly signal their positions. It is not coming back as anything except racism.

If you want to celebrate the traitors who rebelled against the USA in the name of slavery then use one of the 3 official flags of the CSA. It would still represent people who became traitors because they wanted to keep slaves but these flags weren't explicitly created to say "I am a racist". It's a fine line but there is one.

So if he posted a sign openly admitting to selling slaves would he be in trouble for the slave trade since slavery is basically a no no in the USA?

This was pretty much guaranteed to happen after Charlottesville.

"Nice flag, jackass"

"NUH UH, LIB"

And because it's impossible for the other guy to back down he goes full douche bag and doubles down, going from "maybe he's just apathetic and doesn't want to take his flag down over what someone else did" to "Yeah he's probably racist"

2017-09-13 08:51:36 AM
He really needs to research this better. The true meaning of that flag can only be found by sliding across the hood of an orange Dodge Charger with its doors welded shut before proceeding to jump a ridiculous distance over the local creek, pausing in mid-air for some hick narrator to make a comment about the circumstances.

His current course of action does not make him resemble a modern-day Robin Hood in any way, shape, or form.

He says he flies the Confederate battle flag to make a political statement: "It is for people that are tired of the government telling them what to do and what to think. That is what a Southern rebel is."

Yeah, the Confederate States of America were all about that. Because nothing like being drafted into a kill or be killed to situation to benefit rich slave owners shows what a rebel you are.

A colleague of mine is currently engaged in. "Flag war" with his neighbor. He built a pirate ship club house for his two daughters in his backyard and the girls hung a rainbow flag on the mast. Two days later, his neighbor puts up a confedrate flag on his back porch.... so, in response, my colleague added a blavk lives matter flag and a transgender flag to the mast. Neighbor throws up one of those Gadsden flags a few days later. The whole thing is farking hilarious.

I gave him one of these just to fark with his neighbor's "mind" a bit.

Throughout my career, I've interviewed about a hundred anti-establishment  sovereign citizens, militia types, hard core Libertarians... essentially, the New England versions of this guy.

They all feel the need to tell their side of the story, based on their own version of the truth, based on some out of context statement, that their trusted friend, or daddy told them years ago, as if that bit of information is the most important gem of information in the universe.  There's a horribly stunted development, where they've become so committed to their illogical world view, because none of them are doing particularly well, and it's easier to blame the establishment.  That way they can convince themselves that their failures are successes.  I may be living in this hovel, but I'm doing so of my own free will!

Slaves were, in 1860, worth $4,500,000,000 in contemporary dollars. They represented half the capital of the US South. When the State of Missouri declared slavery as the greatest material interest of the world, they meant the South in general and the State of Missouri in particular.

This is what your bullet-headed CEO means when he says that people are our greatest asset. He means capital, and capital is the God of this World. The Union, on the other hand, had more than 50% more capital and the workers did not count towards Northern industrial capital. The farms were largely worked by the farmers and their families, children being the greatest asset of the peasantry and working classes.

The factories were, as the South rightly pointed out, full of wage slaves and debt slaves, but not two-legged property per se.

When Southern Man said negro he meant property, and when he said State Rights, he meant the rights of property. The flag represented rebellion and stiffness of neck. Man-thieving and slavery were just icing on the cake. Well, one of the layers of the Devil's Food Cake that was the South.

The North was no Angel's Food. It served another devil, industrial capital, rather than the Old Devil, agrarian capital and slaves. In the South Cotton became king of a caste system, a helot state squatting like Babylon on the souls and bodies of the oppressed lower castes and pariahs. In the North, money was king all along,

India was and remains the biggest democracy in the world, but it too is a caste dominated society.

The diffrence between the US and Brazil is that the Brazilians practiced manumission on a large scale, so the castes of "free" black and mulatto men and women grew larger as the slave caste grew smaller. The US tossed away slavery (in one form) for another form of domination of the poor, namely wages and debt.

Debt slavery remains one of the most common forms of caste control and oppression, although in Africa they still have all kinds in some countries such as Mali.

The White poor and white trash (interechangeable in the minds of many middle class and upper class conservatives and liberals alike) are just one peg above the Africanized poor and they kick down and kiss up all the harder for being only one rung from slavery in a quasi-fascist system based not on equality, as the Constitution proudly aimed for, but on inequality of sex, race, condition, age, caste, class, religion and political status.

Jim Crow never died. He just took over the job of defining political correctness to suit himself. The people who caused all the racism and bigotry are the people in charge of administrating and legislating political correctness. No wonder it fails. You have the wolf in charge of the fold and the fox and weasel in the henhouse.

The schizophrenic, paranoid and narcissistic people are in charge. And Trump is their God. They do not support him, they worship him. He is King and above the Law which the Constitution says is equally above all.

My mistake: the above declaration was made by the State of Mississippi. My apologies to Missouri, which remained in the Union despite being a slave-holding state.

Well, at least until General Fremont issued his Proclamation emancipating the slaves. And it was rescinded by the pratical politician Abraham Lincoln, POTUS, who was concerned that it would cost the Union another state.

Putting paid to both pro- and anti-Lincoln propaganda of the time and ever since.

Most people don't develop into full adults.  From what I've seen, the vast majority stop at the resentment they felt for potty training, and being told they can't poop themselves wherever they want.  If you look at the behavior of these people, that explains it.  No reason, no thought of accountability, no identifiable benefit to their thought process or course of action.

FOX really needs to stop giving away free commercial promotions, just because the merchant falls into their belief system.   Some Missouri Fox reporter's Sunday feature "What it's like to own a slave" isn't going to happen.  The man had no product to sell.
