It represents the economy of the shareholders, by the shareholders, and for the shareholders.

Apple has lost their minds since 2013.

Yeah.  And they bake it into your monthly payment so you'll never know it is there.

I'm using a 6 bought in February this year. On a whim (haz backups) I just installed the final beta iOS 11. Here's my summary review:

Well, everything I rely on daily seems to work with the iOS 11 beta. A shame though, I'll never be able to afford the phone with the animated poo emojis.

The X looks cool, but I will stick with my 7 for another few years. Funny that the 8 looks like the 7 and 6/s. Should have been called the 7s.

I've got a 6P and just upgraded to Oreo so should be good for a while.  At which point I'll look at a Pixel.

I would look to the Pixel 2 soon. The Pixel XL is great, but you can tell this body was a secondary decision after the first manufacturer backed out. The next one will be much more akin to the Samsung full body version.

Also, I'm running a 6 plus.  It's old but it works.  iOS 11 is "okay" on this phone, but it seems to run out of RAM way faster than iOS 10.  For instance, if I switch from Safari to another app, and then back to Safari, it has to reload the page rather than just putting me back where I was, which is annoying.

The earlier betas, I couldn't even run Spotify and Maps at the same time using CarPlay - the lag and stuttering was atrocious. They seem to have resolved that.

2017-09-12 07:20:38 PM
Subby, you don't know how right you are.

I'm using the 6s I just got this past March, which was an upgrade from the 5c I'd had since the month it was released. And I was still perfectly happy with the 5c. The only reason I upgraded was because my battery life becoming ridiculously abysmal.

You see, even though I only upgrade when absolutely necessary, and therefore I am always eligible for no-fee upgrades or whatever BS term they use, my monthly phone bill always goes up approximately $20-30 after an upgrade. Permanently. Unavoidably. Like clockwork. As I told the kid selling me the phone last time, after one more upgrade cycle, my monthly phone bill will exceed my monthly car payment and become the single most expensive monthly bill I have to pay. And that is just bullshiat.

At least I'm not my dad though. He's still using the first smartphone he's ever owned, an iPhone 4. He makes sure to plug it in when he makes calls so the battery won't suddenly die.

Yeah, my Moto Z Play is much the same, and is overall a pretty great phone. The only real downside is that as a budget model it's not as powerful as it could be, but the slower hardware combines with the fact that it has the same battery capacity as the performance model (Moto Z Force) to give it absurdly good battery life. I only charge it once a week.

In iOS 11, if you enable SOS mode (clicking the power button five times quickly) it'll require the passcode. Which would be good if you're aware they're going to try.

All fanboys are stupid. Even you. There were Fandroids in the other thread scoffing at the 450whatever ppi pixel density of the iPhone X while at the same time trying to say that processor benchmarks meant nothing. It's "stop liking what I don't like" and nothing more. I want iMessage, FaceTime Audio, Handoff, Keynote, and a smooth experience with guaranteed OS upgrades for years. If that happens to come with a cool new screen and 3D facial recognition, I'll take that too.

I'm probably going to stick with my 7+ for a while, though.

I rooted a new s4 and carried it for years. I have a pixel now and it's awesome but I've probably never been happier with a phone than I was that rooted s4. I kind of stopped thinking about phone specs a few years ago. The market has fully matured and its really just not interesting anymore - it's a phone/text pager with the internet on it and to a lesser extent a camera because I hardly use the camera.

The FaceID tech seems really faking impressive and I'm interested to see just how accurate it is.  However, my problem with it is that I would rather still have TouchID.  Even if the facial recognition works as well as they are claiming, it still doesn't quite match the convenience of unlocking with your finger.

Rumor is it was a technical limitation. They couldn't figure out how to mass produce a fingerprint sensor that worked through the screen in time, so they "fell back" on this. It's pretty cool and, if the Apple hype machine is to be believed, it's more secure than Touch ID. But you're right. It doesn't look nearly as easy or intuitive as just laying your finger on a little circle.

This.  I was one of the ones making fun of the ~450dpi on the Iphone (caps to annoy fanboys) as something amazing.  There really aren't huge differences in state of the art phones anymore- my year old Pixel XL is reasonably feature competitive with anything Apple just put out.  But that's mostly because there's so little space for innovation left- yeah the new A11 will be faster than whatever snapdragon is in the Pixel, but the Pixel is already so fast it just doesn't matter.  FaceID is neat, but honestly I'd rather have fingerprint which the Pixel has near perfect.  The new iPhone camera might be slightly better, but the Pixel's camera is already astonishing for something with such pitiful glass.   Siri vs. Google?  Push.  iOS 11 vs. Android 8 Oreo?  I prefer Android, but that's subjective.

Use what you want.  Nobody's impressed.  (Although I will say I've had a lot of confused iPhone users asking what model I had)

my parents still use flip phones. Oddly enough, the phones work just fine. They're old and happy in their retired lifestyle, without constant group chats, snapchats, pictures, poop emojis, etc. I don't blame them. smartphones are 90% n***a technology for pretty much everybody. I have gotten dumber for having them and I find it much harder to remember phone numbers, appointments, directions, etc now that I rely on the google mini machine to manage my life for me.

I kind of stopped thinking about phone specs a few years ago. The market has fully matured and its really just not interesting anymore - it's a phone/text pager with the internet on it and to a lesser extent a camera because I hardly use the camera.

unfortunately, there is an industry that needs to be funded. apps will continue to bloat to take advantage of hardware made to handle bloated apps.
I think the real problem is that people are farking idiots. stop breaking your phones, idiots, and you can use the same one for years. help keep the bloat under control by NOT buying the latest greatest every 12-18 months.
I know i just said it's time for an upgrade, but i'm seriously thinking about just figuring out how to get a new battery because estimates under 25% are unreliable these days. then again, subsidized phones mean i'm paying for a new phone whether or not i get a new phone...
