Yeah, the turf did look a little deflated.

The Chiefs managed to overcome that bit of adversity.

They've overcome worse.

They should go back to grass, nobody seems to actually like field turf but owners insist on it because it's way easier to maintain.

2017-09-12 05:17:30 PM
They just announced via Twiiter they insist on a rematch. Terms and conditions are being negotiated.

Oh, my God, what a b*tch move. Unless one of your players does his best impression of RG3 in the 2013 NFC Wild Card Playoffs, "soft turf" is NOT an acceptable excuse. >:-(

1. Why would you want him sober?
2. Would any of us notice the difference?

The term is thin SKINNED...not thin SODDED.

2017-09-12 06:03:20 PM
Yes, they want to replace the turf because they don't think it's good enough.  They're entitled to do that.  They have to play on it.  Is there any actual support for the claim they blame the field for losing?  Or is that just Patriot hate fantasy?

I would love to call them classless jerks for not admitting they just got beat, but I need to see the evidence.

2017-09-12 06:07:21 PM
I remember when I was at Mizzou that the Omniturf garbage that was on the field was our best defenseman.

One of the sports writers poured a bucket of water on it and tried to walk across the puddle and tripped.

2017-09-12 06:12:42 PM
I don't see that they said anything about that causing the loss. Either way, seems like both teams have to play on the same turf so it would be a stupid thing to say to begin with.

He's probably busy trying to gather funding to make a gritty biopic titled "Patriot Down", which will tell the story of this evil turf which helped decide game. He will play as Tom Brady, and will likely employ enough creative license to also show him killing terrorists and saving Boston itself sometime immediately after the game.

2017-09-12 06:16:27 PM
Yeah the organization hasn't made any excuses at all for the loss, but don't let that get in the way of your circle jerk.

2017-09-12 06:23:42 PM
Various players have been asked all week about the turf as this is a four-day-old story, (right on time, fark.com/sports). Some said they didn't notice anything, others said maybe it felt a little soft, nobody said they had a hard time playing on it.

I'd like to believe it's not as simple as just ordering replacement turf on hours notice. But they have tons of money, so maybe they know a guy. And when they first got the turf it was installed in a similar two week window right after playing a game in what was characterized as a sand trap.

2017-09-12 06:26:29 PM
It's not a stretch to imagine BB and TB petulantly blaming the turf for the loss and having it replaced, but I couldn't find where they did anywhere in tfa.

2017-09-12 06:35:39 PM
Local news has it less about it not being good enough, and more about the softer turf being the prime suspect in at least 4 Knee injuries (Not just to Patriots players, Jaguars & Chiefs too).

2017-09-12 07:01:58 PM
How about your offense and defense both sucked in the 4th quarter? 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter will kill a team.
Kansas City did perfectly fine on the soft turf. Didn't seem to have an effect on them.

2017-09-12 07:25:20 PM
Pats defense got punked. That is all.

Meh. Not news. They replace the turf at Soldier Field like every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Sucks that their were maybe injuries caused by this turf.  Wouldn't it be cool to have the same turf in every teams stadium? hmmmm...

Maybe the turf was just underinflated.

Maybe, but just to be sure, all the teams hosting the Patsies this year are out there now, fluffing their turf.

felching pen: fluffing their turf.

That used to mean something different.

I think it may have been their soft defensive line.

I accept no complaints about turf that aren't at least this bad:

It is amazing that, apparently, the Chiefs found all the hard turf and Patriots were stuck on the soft turf. What are the odds?

2017-09-13 06:05:29 AM

AdamK: They should go back to grass, nobody seems to actually like field turf but owners insist on it because it's way easier to maintain.

It's basically impossible to maintain a grass field in that stadium past September. The stadium walls are too high and once the fall rolls around the playing surface doesn't get nearly enough sunlight to keep the grass healthy. They'd have to re-sod in November or December and hope that was good enough to get through the end of January in a best-case scenario, and if you watch the highlights from the early-2000's Patriots home playoff games it's easy to see that field didn't hold up at all. Most, if not all, teams with a grass field do have to re-sod during the season but that's usually only between the hash marks where the most wear and tear occurs. But the Pats would have to re-sod the entire surface, it was bad.

For those of us who love watching football being played in the dirt and muck it was great (especially when your offense was led by a big, bruising type RB like Corey Dillon back then), but now that the Patriots treat their offense like a damn Swiss watch they can't be farking around on a sloppy track.

litespeed74: Sucks that their were maybe injuries caused by this turf.  Wouldn't it be cool to have the same turf in every teams stadium? hmmmm...

I appreciate the idea, but between temperature, rain, etc. it actually wouldn't play the same if you used the same turf in Miami as you did in Foxborough or Seattle or Arizona.

edmo: The Chiefs managed to overcome that bit of adversity.

This is the first time I've heard of the team blaming home field advantage for a loss.  I don't know stadiums very well, so I thought they had played at the Chiefs' stadium, and was confused how Patriots are changing the field.

I think I do know the turf they're complaining about, we have a very soft turf at our arena.  The soccer players love it.

2017-09-13 08:39:40 AM
If they're going to let Brady get knocked down as much as they did in that game, maybe they should keep the soft turf. Or make it even softer. Or pay for some decent O-linemen.

I'll go a step further. You can make ridiculous and unsubstantiated claims and half the people will believe you with no proof at all. You can get elected President doing this.

There was a study recently that said well over 90% of people don't read past the headline, so yeah.

I read the title of the study and assumed it was a well-reasoned, articulately argued thesis. No need to read any further.

Blaming anything other than their own poor performance for a loss is something BB has never, ever done. Ever. It's completely antithetical to his coaching philosophy.

It would be nice if A. Admins would actually READ a link before greening it and B. Farkers had to prove THEY read the link before commenting on it.
