I'm not sure that he is a bad pilot. He seemed to land just fine. It mechanics that he sucks at.

I kinda doubt he circled the area threes times before landing.

If he had the power it altitude so be he could circle at all, he could have circled back to the airport.

Dammit, Chewie! Why did you polarize the negative power couplings?!! Now we have to land in West Virginia.  And if Burt Renyonlds couldn't make it through West Virginia, we don't stand a chance.

Interstates were first promoted with a national defense angle. Some segments are setup as impromptu runways.

Yes they were/are. The interstates were built with military functions in mind. Eisenhower got the idea from a guy named Hitler can who had these autobahn thingies.

A cub with flaps mod? He could have landed going side to side on the interstate.

Actually, that was northern Georgia, and if you watched the film, Burt Reynolds made it through fine.  It was Ned Beatty who didn't make it through fine.

Landing on roads should a very last resort. Drivers on highway have not chosen to be exposed to risk of crashing airplanes. It better be life threatening, because you are threatening others lives.

//why yes I do practice landing on roads

It's a Super Cub. Super Cubs have flaps, a more powerful engine than a standard Cub, and can be flown solo from the front seat.

Flying a plane is no different from riding a bicycle; it's just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

In a Cub?  Yeah, not so much.  It's a tube and rag airplane.  The whole thing is a lightly built crumple zone.  The only part heavy enough to be dangerous is the engine, and unless the aircraft is landing against traffic, it's not a significant hazard to the drivers because the driver will be overtaking the aircraft, and if they manage to collide, it will be the front of the much more solidly constructed car crunching up the very lightly constructed airplane.  I can pick up the tail of a Super Cub.  I can't pick up the front of my Hyundai Accent.

Nice misinformation.

One in five miles of the Interstate System is straight so airplanes can land in emergencies.

This myth is widespread on the Internet and in reference sources, but has no basis in law, regulation, design manual-or fact.  Airplanes occasionally land on Interstates when no alternative is available in an emergency, not because the Interstates are designed for that purpose.

Eisenhower saw the need for a nationwide network of good roads when he was given a mission to lead a convoy across America's muddy and narrow dirt roads when he was a LT in the 1920s.

Honestly if you have two emergency landings in so many days its easy to say "you need a good mechanic" but what is the liability of personal aircraft? Aren't you still ultimately responsible for only flying an air-worthy bird?

I know that there is some terrifying shiat puttering around above us but I saying that if someone were to get litigious after this guy scratches the paint on their car on his third highway landing would there be criminal statutes that would also apply?

Yes, many times you can even fix them while still in the air... after you have trimmed them for best glide.
