"The judge needs the footage, Larry!"
"Sure, I know, but there's spoilers for the episode in the shot."
"No one cares about the spoilers, Larry, just give the judge the tape. A man's been wrongly convicted"
"But what if you were a juror and you didn't want to be spoiled, this is the government FORCING you to watch something you don't want to. That's reverse-censorship! That's like Stalin or Hitler."
"Giving the judge the tape is being like Stalin or Hitler. . ."
"Well. . ."

You know what would have been a good thing to include in that article?

A synopsis of exactly how the footage in question exonerated the guy.

You Farkers might be celebrating the exoneration, but think of the poor prosecutor and police officers who were denied a career-boosting conviction.

For those that don't know, the guy in question was at the baseball game that Larry took the hooker to so he could use the carpool lane and get to the game in time.

That episode killed my desire to really go back and re-watch the series. I'll stick around for the new season, though.

He's still sitting in prison, though, so while alive, he still has yet to be free or get any real justice.

Mr. Catalan, who has already received a settlement from the state due to his civil claim of wrongful imprisonment, is still in prison?

I was just thinking about this case the other day, for some reason... I'm sure i first heard about it on Fark, but like 10 years ago.

If you don't mind spoilers read below.  (this is from memory).
The guy told his lawyer he couldn't be the one because he was at a Dodgers game.   That game also the backdrop of a Curb episode.    The lawyer suponea'd the out-takes, and lo and behold, they were able to spot the guy in the stands within the footage.

But in some ways aren't we all still sitting in prison, still yearning to be free?

/or in another, more accurate way, not.

It's a pretty famous case. The footage showed the accused was at a baseball game where Curb Your Enthusiasm was being filmed instead of several miles away murdering someone. It backed his alibi and made it ironclad.

Often when something like this is discovered, release is contingent on signing away suing rights, which should be illegal.  That isn't the case here, but often is.  Also, convictions get overturned and while the state appeals the non-convicted person has to sit in prison (see Dassey).

From some other site: "Catalan remembered that an HBO TV crew had been filming near him while he was at the game, so as a shot in the dark, his lawyers went to HBO to see if they could get lucky. After scouring hours of footage, they finally spotted him, sitting in a seat just as he said he was, eating a hot dog.  Since the game was going on 20 miles away from where the murder took place, a judge promptly released him from jail and he was cleared of all charges."

Wrong thread.  To make it remotely relevant I'll just wonder if Larry David has viewed the film and what he thinks of it.
