But some parts of China do eat dogs. It's a bit insensitive to say that he's afraid they would eat his dog, but still. Is it wrong to say that Brits have a love for boiled meat and blood pudding?

And by the way, I am in no way a fan. They suck harder than Jenna Jameson in her prime.

Exactly. if it happens, and you make a joke about something that has taken place and still does, how is that racist? It's ethnic, but not racist, and not all that tasteless and people are overreacting.

The real outrage is that the dog slaughter and eating still goes on, not that there are jokes about it.

The Chainsmokers made a shiatty song and should've went away after that, but we're still taking about them because people are dumb and, oh they're racist too? I'm not sure if I can hate them more then I already do, but please try.

Yes, because not all Brits love or even know anything about 'boiled meat' and 'blood pudding'.

I think the whole concept of generalisation escapes you.

China is a pretty big place. Unless the band was in the area of the dog eating region, then he should STFU about branding all of China as dog eaters - and even then, the whole ick factor is decidely racist in tone.

Anyway, probably more to your 'taste', not that civilised western society would reference it much in regards to China: It's just not icky enough.

Just like people generalizing that all Americans are fat and love hamburgers. Nothing to get butthurt over. Just roll with it.

Now if Chainsmokee #1 pulled his eyes back and started talking faux Mandarin, then yeah, he's racist as fark.

I'm vaguely annoyed that I'm supposed to automatically know who "The Chainsmokers" are.  I can read an article that notes ". . . Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, the Press Secretary. . ." or " . . . author Stephen King . . ." but "The Chainsmokers" don't merit a quick identifier?  Heck, even here on on Fark, we get "Convicted felon Dinesh D'souza".  Is that too much to ask?

Besides, I've lost count of all the jokes about British "cuisine" that I've seen on Fark. It's a running joke around here, yo.

That's all social media outrages are. They can all be boiled down to "ooh, look at how right thinking I am!"

Anyone ever jokingly accuse you of being at risk of getting hangry and eating their pet pot-bellied pig because of your race?

No, they didn't.  Because that shiat is stupid.  It's stupid when it's the Irish and potatoes, it's stupid here.  All the rest is just people taking the opportunity of the emotional appeal of dogs to say what they want.

Social media 'outrage' is telling someone to shut the fark up.  The people who label it 'outrage' are typically the only ones actually being offended.

Kirablue42: The real outrage is that the dog slaughter and eating still goes on

Why is this an outrage? Serious question.

I know, I know, we love our pets, yada yada yada, but what actually makes raising dogs for meat different than raising, say, pigs for meat?

When you set aside cultural bias because, again, we love our dogs, not much. Hell, pigs are smarter than dogs, too.

If people in some places in the world eat dog meat, so what? Why is that an outrage? If you're against all meat consumption, fair enough, otherwise ... meh.

I should have been more specific. There is a festival in China that has dogs literally tortured to death. I am not opposed to dogs being eaten if that is a necessary food source or part of the culture, but the deliberate cruelty of that is what I am opposed to.

Well, they do eat dog meat in many parts of China. When I was there teaching at a university,  my students would ask me whether my family planned to eat our dog when he died. Of course, that was a while ago. Now maybe they would be more like the people I met in Korea - very offended if you mentioned their eating of dog meat, because they were embarrassed about it, but who still ate dog meat.

Yeah a country humiliated and treated like savages for years but is suddenly powerful and prideful would have no objection to being compared to savages.  You don't know the Chinese internet well do you?  They're more reactionary about anti-China things than the most SJW SJW that ever SJW'd.
