Thanos will destroy the Sony and Fox studios in Infinity War so we won't have to worry about non-MCU Marvel movies any more.

Venom and Bill Mantlo's destruction of Alpha Flight were what made me give up on reading cape comics.

And here I thought I was the only one that hated Mantlo's writing...

A new spiderverse movie starring arguably the most famous Spider-Man villain that doesn't take place in the MCU even though the current Spider-Man does exist as part of the MCU and which doesn't involve Spider-Man, even though this villain's origin is almost inextricably linked to Spider-Man is having problems, you say?

Eventually this thing will get made, but it will be Venom in name only and Sony will shoot themselves in the dick AGAIN. I just hope Marvel has a solid contract with them for creative control on all the actual Spidey properties so they can't go getting their suck on the MCU.

paulleah: Venom will fail because it's unnecessary.

I'd argue that Venom will fail because Sony is obtuse and tone-deaf even when it has control of some pretty awesome properties.

One of the biggest reasons Sony stopped making Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies wasn't because they were poorly reviewed and regarded by fans, but because Andrew Garfield became ill on a day he was supposed to have an appearance with Sony's Japanese CEO. Fans actually got something great out of that (Tom Holland), but all of the Sinister Six / Black and Silver / Venom crap is still on the table from that era. And they're going ahead with it even though they explicitly can't connect it to Spider-Man or the MCU right now.  No one wants a stand-alone movie about Spider-Man's rogue's gallery that's unconnected to any actual Spider-Man stuff. They don't have scripts or even really ideas for any of this stuff, they just have a license, so they're going to make the movies. That kind of thinking is what got us the Emoji movie.

Wait. So we could get a Web of Spider-man movie? Flowers for Rhino? The Last Shoot?

I'd pay good money to see a Carnage vs Deadpool movie.

Someone should make a rated-R Carnage mo... nvm, see it's already been covered.

I always thought Cillian Murphy would be able to pull off Carnage.

I am no longer astonished at the amazing lengths Sony will go to spectacularly trip on their own dicks making superhero movies.

I just don't see a stand-alone movie outside of the universe of the current Spider-Man just doesn't make a whole lot of sense

Open: a teenager named Porter Peaker discovers he has abilities from when he accidentally ate a pizza which contained the venom of an outer space arachnid of some kind.

And he turns into a thing that is not unlike Spider-Man, but has big teeth and can't use a computer or talk good and stuff.

But when he hears Jazz, he turns all cool and stuff and is suddently suave. But only until the VENOM wears off or something.

Al Ewing's Ultimates run was pretty good. It's not Alpha Flight but it has Captain Marvel and my current fave Blue Marvel.
