Michelle probably wants no part of it

Nope.  Nope.  Nope.  The misogynists are barely settled down after 2016, and you want to bring the Klan into it?

Just no.

harleyquinnical: Michelle probably wants no part of it

That was my first thought.

Marcus Aurelius: Nope.  Nope.  Nope.  The misogynists are barely settled down after 2016, and you want to bring the Klan into it?

Just no.

This was my second. This nation has lost its god damned mind. The best candidates won't even get a look see.

Can we get past 2018 before we do this?

They'll be offset by the Blacks who will come out again in record numbers to vote for a person who looks like them.  That's what the media was talking about when they used the code words "Obama coalition" in the last election.

assets.pewresearch.org

Record numbers voted in 2008 and 2012, when the Democratic candidate was Barack Obama, but this last election, they fell back towards the pre-Obama mean.

So running another Black person might be the only way they can win again.  Especially up in the Rust Belt states that Obama won, and Hillary Clinton lost.

I think there is a quote somewhere from Mr. Obama that says just that. However, I would probably vote for her in a heartbeat.

2017-09-11 10:22:24 AM
I'd really prefer someone with governing experience.  Mrs Obama is a wonderful person, but "wonderful person" isn't really a qualification for President.  "Being Famous" isn't either, as we are finding out.

2017-09-11 10:24:03 AM
I have a great deal of respect and admiration for her, and would vote for her in a hot second, but she already stated emphatically that she wouldn't run.

I wouldn't run either, this farked up country doesn't deserve either of the Obamas.

I love Michelle Obama but "slept with a president" is hardly a qualification for the office.  On the other hand, given the current state of affairs, maybe it should be.

Why not?  It didn't affect Obama's run to victory.

This is the better explanation; she saw what her husband had to deal with and she wouldn't want that on her shoulders.

I don't think that was it.  Look at the graph:  Whites, Hispanics, and Asians didn't move all that much compared to Blacks.  Unless you're arguing that Barack Obama had organizational abilities in the Black community that Clinton could only dream about.

You joke, but this is what a lot of the post-mortem advice adds up to.   Run Eugene Debs great-grandson and a Black Panther, because the most important attribute is the ability to get attention and yell.  Hopefully by 2020 some people will realize that professionalism and the ability to do the job should be in there somewhere.

I'm sure the GOP would welcome it. It isn't the 25 year history of lies, abuse and propaganda they had with Hillary, but they've had 8 years to demonize her already. I'm sure the GOP hate machine and their racist base will have no problem getting fired up to vote against Michelle Obama. They'll use about the same tack they used with Hillary also. The GOP are extravagant douches like that. They haven't given an honest critique of their opposition's plans,  platform, or history since I can remember. They're an ad hominem party and I'm sure they'd love to drudge back up all their racist slights against Michelle as opposed to debating the merits of her. By 2019 every hick piece of shiat and closeted racist will have a first person anecdote of the kid they knew "that went to school and they fed him arugula for breakfast while the black kids had Froot Loops and bacon as Ms Obama sat chimpily at home eating Dijon mustard and planning halal school lunch menus for the nation.

They did put some extra effort into African Americans though.
"The party sent a press release to reporters on Sunday trumpeting the fact that fewer black voters cast early ballots this year than they did in 2012. "African American Early Voting is down 8.5% from this time in 2012," the release read. "As a share of Early Voters, African Americans are down 6.0%." The statement also cheered the rise in white voters as compared with 2012. "The once dynamic Obama Coalition [is] crumbling and tired," said Robin Hayes, the North Carolina GOP chairman, adding that the party's "motivated statewide volunteers and extensive ground game" are the reason for the good news."

We really need some kind of election commission at the federal level to check on stuff like this.  Maybe an act related to voting rights too.

I mean, probably.

The fact that she's given no indication of ever wanting the job, and when questions go in that direction, she immediately says she doesn't want it might be an indication that it's not gonna happen, though.

To be fair, the Rock is about as qualified as Trump and seems like he'd take the job a lot more seriously. It's my hope that if we end up with a selection of celebrity presidents then Congress will be forced to take back many of their responsibilities that they never should have delegated to the executive.
