I sort of doubt that. To a malignant narcissist, being hated by people you disdain is taken as proof of your awesomeness.

One senior administration official told Axios that Trump's deal with the Democrats had come because "he just wanted to do something popular."

Hurry, someone write an op-ed about how popular it is to mix crushed Xanax into Diet Coke.  Allllllll the hep cats are doing it.  Won't somebody please think of the children?!

Given how unpopular he's been since day one.  He's just now realizing what people think about him?

Naw you're thinking of your boss. Trump wants to be adored.  He wants to be Eva Peron in Patton's clothing

You think that after seventy one years of this shiat, he's finally seen the light? No he's hasn't.  His administration is trying to spin it that way, but he hasn't.

There would be a delicious irony if, in his quest to be adored, he starts adopting popular liberal policies and went down like Teddy.

Well said. If he was still running his real estate business I couldn't care less about him but the fact that he runs this country in such an embarrassing fashion is disgraceful.

He is too narcissistic to pay attention to what people think of him. Just put him in a room with lots of mirrors and gold leaf. He'll get trapped gazing at his own reflection and waste away.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if he adopted the personae of a builder, if he invested heavily in public works and ignored the GOPs need to balance every good act with blood and misery, he could be a good president.

He's gotta dump that white supremacist bull before I'd consider him a decent person, but he could at least move out of the "not awful president" column if he took seriously ONE of or actual problems.

(Immigration is not an actual problem. Texas desperately needs MORE immigrants right now)

When was the last time anyone gave this much crap about the feelings of an elderly evil narcissist?

Outside of your own family or employer.

Even in hating his guts, he's still the center of attention.  At some primal level that's grand for him.

The guy's a nihilist. He believes in nothing except himself. He's not a true believer in the GOP's agenda at all. If he thinks his fortune and future rests in promoting the progressive side of a populist agenda, he could get more done than Bernie ever dreamed of.

Will he?

I'd put more money on your scenario. But it's possible.

And he is going to burn them when they tell him "no", but something tells me the Dems are well aware of this scenario, and will just ride him hard and out him away wet when it's convenient.

Trump is an idiot, and he is going to get rolled by people that have been playing this game for decades, and he has no idea how much of an idiot he is or how much everyone knows.

What's in it for Trump?  How good would the ratings be? Will it finally get the Apprentice all the Emmys that you and I and everyone know it deserves?  Did I make Page Six this week?

Pretty much.

If he figured out pushing DACA through congress and building bridges and fiber optic networks and just saying "Nazis are liquid garbage" would get him back to 50% approval territory, I think good things would get done.

He'll never not be Trump. He'll never be an incurious moron who only knows what the last person to flatter him told him. And I wouldn't make the same mistake the republicans did and think he can be controlled. But who knows? Maybe we'll end up with some shiny new infrastructure instead of a nuclear war.

This may be what happens when Kelly took his Breitbart and Fox News away for a while... he briefly got the real news and had a moment of clarity.

It's incredibly unlikely, but I think even Trump understands this will probably be the last thing people know him for, other than a potential indictment. He may be going for a few wins at whatever cost, even at the expense of the party he was under and the people that voted for him. He's petty enough to do that, if he starts to get that the GOP can't get him a win.

2017-09-09 08:44:09 PM
Even Trump has figured out that Republicans are incompetent blowhards.  The advantage Democrats have, if they keep it in mind, is that there's no downside when they disagree with him.  Republicans have to pretend to enjoy eating shiat so their morons don't abandon them.

This is not a pivot. Trump is not suddenly becoming presidential. He is not the Dems friends, and this isn't a sudden burst of goodwill or introspection.

The GOP isn't giving him what he wants--good optics and ratings--and so he's trying the Democrats out to see if he can get the love and adoration from the left that is dwindling on the right. But make no mistake, as another unpopular president once said, if the Dems don't drop to their knees and start sucking, he'll be right back in the GOP camp.

The only correct response to this is "Thanks for the FEMA money, but Mueller still gets his subpoenas."

I think if he ever figured out exactly how out of his depth he is, he might very well...

Hell, I have NO idea. Would he have a total "Paul on the road to Damascus" moment? Would he just break? Would the enormity of the problem just make him run to the nearest episode of Fox n Friends until the feeling went away? What happens when a 70 year old is forced to realize he's actually President and that reality is a thing?

God. If only there was a way to put him in an MRI machine when that moment of clarity hit. It might be the closest thing to the total perspective vortex we have right now.
