I would just like to congratulate the Pitt Panthers in advance for thrashing my Penn State Nittany Lions and returning sanity to the game of college football. Last week Pitt struggled against their lower-division school from eastern Ohio whereas Penn State dominated theirs, but don't be fooled: this has all the warning signs of a major, and deserved, upset.  Penn State accidentally had a good season last year but this is not the norm, and once Pitt is through having their way with us, Penn State will return to it's rightful place as a has-been.  So, good job, Pitt.

Since it is Pitt-PSU pregame day, CNN decided to drop the latest JoePa knew story: Link

I'm pretty sure everyone back home is going to be posting nothing but "book coming out, fake news" today about the story. I mean at this point it's like the Chapelle sketch, people aren't going to change their minds unless there's a picture of Sandusky with a kid, JoePa watching from the background, and JoePa's holding up two forms of ID.

/PSU will beat Pitt pretty easily today

And alcohol.  Lots of that.

I will be sad today when PSU breaks it's seventeen year losing streak to Pitt.

/ Hoping for the upset
// Not going to happen without  the suspended Whitehead
/// Slashies like Pitt's win streak if they pull the upset

Navy is going after Tulane today.  Though the Green Wave was one of those sad sacks Navy trampled with abandon in the past, they HAVE had habits of stealing a few wins as of late.

Focus, Goats.  Focus!

I wasn't at the computer when they were discussing it, but how good are GPS locators. Could they put on in nose of the football and one in the yard markers to determine first downs?

Utah/BYU might have the most sheer hate and vitriol of any rivalry in the nation.  When you mix proximity (40 miles), religion (Mormon vs non-Mormon), and competitiveness (8 of the last 10 games have been decided by 4 points or less), it breeds a ton of animosity.

I'm hoping Utah extends the win streak to 7, and effectively ends BYUs season in the process.  That would be an excellent finish to the college football day.

Most GPS receivers give you ~1m accuracy. Super expensive rigs can get you to 1cm accuracy (maybe slightly better), but the antenna is about the size of a football.

Good to know about that (since it wouldn't be feasible as is)

And... you didn't ask, but you really don't care about where the ball is exactly. You just care about where it is relative to other markers (as in, the field). A person could embed RFID-type circuits into a ball (two might work) where antennas located near the field ping the ball and interpret the responses through the magic of mathematics. The challenge is that multiple footballs are used, often switching each down.

At certain points, people accept the game is supposed to have a 'human-error' factor injected by the officials. Allows for additional alcohol sales.

You realize how fragile those can be?  Footballs are handled tough.  They might be smashed before the first quarter.

And and Ty Isaac doesn't get carries when Michigan needs to settle down?

It's almost as if they lose air during games as well.

ECU-WV is just barely halfway through Q2, and the Pirates are down 35-3.  This after losing to an FCS team last week.

Everyone in Pirate Nation should be loudly questioning AD Jeff Compher why we fired Ruffin.

And maybe start looking for a new AD.

And the second part allows a person to argue that they are the real winner and save face. I like both the logic in your post and the excuse to drink a beer.

Badgers o line continues to look mediocre.  Not a good sign since so much of their game is predicated on the line opening holes in the run game

Cincy's QB looked more surprised than UM's D on that thirty-plus run.
