Sounds about right.  I can't wait for the 3am drunk dials.

so, rumor is that Dent's retirement announcement last night is the tip of the iceberg and we should be seeing a mass retirement party of "both moderate and conservative" republicans today. Ryan is pissed. This is a good Friday

I wonder if Trump realizes that the Democrats still hate him, they are just trying to play a weak hand a strongly as possible.  They're just waiting for a chance to stab him in the back.

Republicans could end the year with no major conservative accomplishments to show for their complete control of Washington. This scenario would not only leave Obamacare as the law of the land, but also in better financial standing, and grant long-term legal status to the "dreamers."

That would have been considered a good first year in office for President Hillary Clinton.

ALL OF THEM.

Trump is not a good person. This is not a pivot, he is not negotiating or becoming more presidential. He got all he could out of the GOP, Mueller won't go away, and now Trump is kicking Yertle and Liftbro to the curb and sucking up to the other team to take them for a ride.

He is NOT our friend.

they may get their chance. If Ryan and McConnell have turned on Trump, it's entirely possible that they allow impeachment proceedings to start. If Ryan gets forced out, there's no guarantee that the GOPers that will have announced they're not seeking reelection to continue to toe the party line and may not vote for the insanity the tea party puts up to replace him. If that's the case, Pelosi could pull a majority of votes and become Speaker. Which would be f*cking hilarious

This is irrelevant to president Leeroy Jenkins.  Strictly about screwing Mitch and Paul for failing to deliver wins

Don't we want to keep the moderates?  It's always good to have an opposing voice.  A sane one, not run by religious fundies and Nazis would be nice.

Trump is a coward and sees loyalty as a one way street that only benefits him.  Of course he was going to turn on the GOP as fast as he could if he felt that he wasn't getting what he deserved.  Who the fark didn't think that he wouldn't?

And that's what makes this situation so weird:  as long as the Democrats are 'against' him, he'll kowtow to them.  He has no real hold over them and this is when his mush brain realizes he needs to be liked by them.  That's how you control Trump:  you stand firm and let him come to you because, in his rotting brain, this is what 'cutting a deal' is all about.  And it's not like he has any real stances outside of making himself look good and strong.

Schumer and Pelosi have known this for a while, but I think we're going to see more of it.  Notice how when they talk to Trump they always discount the wall but go forward on something else.  Meanwhile, Ryan and McConnell have to take it up the butt because he is their leader and Trump knows that he can fark with them as much as he wants.  Not because of the GOP base necessarily, but because everything is a power struggle to him.  Being loyal means being submissive, and that is something the GOP has not grasped to their own peril.

I think the bigger loser in all of this is Pence, because he thought he was going to step into the presidency without a problem.  If the Democrats can con Trump and appeal to his twisted ideas of reality, Pence is just a VP that will never see power and that has to burn him inside.  He's stuck on a four-year trip with Trump destroying his thin credibility as the Democrats play everybody like a fiddle.

Am I the only one who sees this as a controlling, asshole patriarch in a family, who lords power over everyone and craves subjugation and adoration, playing the kids against each other, so they do ANYTHING to make dad happy, and they get to stay in the will? Trump wants a "win", and will do anything to give himself more to crow about. But he loves setting the sides against each other, and is notoriously fickle with his "affections" (other than the grabbing kind.)

True, but Pence never had credibility. He's a failed governor who wasn't going to be re-elected. If Trump hadn't picked him his career would have been over.

Much like the Zetas realizing they could make more money by becoming their own drug cartel instead of providing protection to others, I'd fear the Face Eating Leopards.  Dick Armey, Koch Brothers, Ralph Reed, Mercer Family, or the FSB will help them go independent.
