This is just a small financial oversight that is easily fixed by our nation's legislative bodies. I have complete confidence in our government and its ability to protect and help its citizens.

That's because as a Canadian you have a sane leader and government.

The House just passed the amended version of Harvey relief that includes ~7.5 billion dollars in un-directed block grants for disaster relief, so FEMA should be funded through at least Tuesday, maybe even Wednesday.  (This also means the means the debt ceiling and budget fights gets put off to see if we get a Christmas miracle)

Why does it seem like everyone who has relatives in Florida feels that way?

I know I feel that way about at least 3 of them.  The other ones are cool though.

At the risk of being labeled a 'trumpster'...

Really? Did you even read the article? Same thing happened in 2011 under Obama. This is an accounting issue. FEMA will continue to run its operations if it runs out of money before congress approves additional funding, just like it did in 2011. Stop making a non-political issue political. Oh wait, this is Fark. Nevermind.

Oh, there will be funding. Our president has a number of properties in the path of Irma, not just Mar-a-Lago. He'll need lots of taxpayer donations to pay for the 300,000$ carpet he just had installed. "Sorry, don't have the receipt yet, just trust me."

Rant Time; Wife and I are buying a home near Phoenix, and we discovered the home we like was re-zoned in 2013 as a potential (12% chance every 100 years of flood waters reaching 1ft deep) flood zone, and we can't get a loan for the house unless buy flood insurance.  We were told that after Katrina/Sandy, FEMA went out and greatly increased potential flood zones to help cover their losses and stuff the coffers for times like this.  This morning we found out that it's estimated that Harris County, TX (which contains Houston) has approx. 15% of the population covered for flood insurance.  Houston has had over 15 major floods since 1979.  Not sure how people there don't have flood insurance but it's mandatory for our new place.

Refuse to address climate change, despite it being established science.
Refuse to increase the government's revenue by properly taxing the people and businesses controlling the vast majority of the country's wealth.
Under-fund government agencies in the name of "Fiscal Conservatism"
Act shocked when, inevitably, shiat hits the fan and the nation isn't prepared to deal with it.

The Republican Way.

I WISH my relatives had moved to Florida.  On general principles of distance, of course.  Not because it's about to be razed to bedrock and the rubble washed out to sea.  I just would have so much more peaceful nights and weekends...

Several of my immediate family are evac'ing FL tonight for my place, so I'm getting a kick out of etc and so on.

My dad and brother are staying, not so much because they're gung-ho about riding it out, but bro's delivering mail right up 'til the end and dad feels responsible for the animals on the family property. Both want to be able to get back to assess damage/take cleanup steps as quickly as possible.

So I'm getting a visit from my mom, a couple younger cousins, and the farm dog.
