its usually at this point I scream at the Civ VI poorly coded AI for being a shiat stick and reboot my game for a more coherent starting point that's less obviously a giant f*ck you from the developers too lazy to write decent code.

I am less sure what to do when this sort of thing happens in 'real life'.

it does seem as if the Goddess is really pissed at the US.  or maybe we really did reach a tipping point with global climate change.  I honestly don't know anymore.

I know you accept anthropogenic climate change, but for those who don't, I have this to say: More energy is trapped on earth rather than being radiated into space. That energy has to be dissipated somehow, so more intense winds and storms is one consequence of that.

This isn't some scientific conspiracy to keep the grant money rolling in. The scientific consensus is settled now. Nobody's looking for a breakthrough discovery now. It's simply a case of monitoring change and figuring out mediation efforts.

Think of the most boring, fact based profession out there: insurance actuaries. Even they are taking climate change into account in their models now.

I think these storms are driving the right wing even nuttier.  its probably the biggest example yet of how our culture and industries are changing the climate....but conservatives cannot EVER admit they're wrong on anything.  I half expected to see a line of alt right idiots heading into the hurricane zones with beach towels and suntan lotion as if nothing was going to happen.

Let me draw a picture for you.

We demoted Pluto from being a planet. Why was it done? Because otherwise we'd have to make a lot of other things a planet. In particular, Eris, which was discovered to be even more massive than Pluto. And you know Eris doesn't like being snubbed. Hence all the chaos.

I'm currently reading Wyrd Sisters aloud to my girlfriend.

It's a fanciful tale about a country where a mentally unstable man usurps a crown he doesn't really seem to have wanted in the first place and so mismanages things that the very land itself gets pissed off and wants him gone.

Great book. I hope you know Macbeth. You'll get a bit more out of it if you do.

Hurricane forms, no one cares.  Repeat 50X until one hits a populated area, then suddenly every little hurricane that use to be ignored is now suddenly 'omg, why are there so many hurricanes???'

Also, everyone moaning about the hurricanes needs to look at the situation in India to put things into perspective.  It could easily be worse.

It's also not the book of Revelations. The Book of the Revelation of St John is singular.

Sir Pterry was great, even if I (heretically) believe that the Witches sub-series was the worst of Discworld. They're still pretty great to anyone with more than a passing familiarity wth Shakespeare, Fairy Tales or the Phantom of The Opera.

Sorry, Rincewind and the Wizards is the weakest sub-series. Didn't think so first time through, but it's very obvious on re-read.

So the last 8 or 10 years or whatever of lower then normal hurricane activity meant what then?  You guys are funny.

It's so hard to pick a favorite sub-series. The witches are awesome and play with story tropes. The wizards have their own charms, so does the Watch which has fun playing with police procedurals, and Moist Von Lipwig is also a ton of fun. You can't go wrong with Pratchett. Even the standalones have their own charms.

Watch > Death = Moist > Witches > Wizards

It's September, peak of Atlantic Basin hurricane season.

This is not unusual.
