Ryan has the ultimate Trump card he could use against the president.

BTW -- Paul Ryan was pretty clearly stated that he thought it was wrong for Trump to cancel DACA.  Paul when will legislation move forward in the House that reinstates it?  I know you spend time in the Congressional gym working out.  Do you ever exercise your spine?

It has been fascinating to see the pretzels people have twisted themselves into on this that since Trump chose the Democratic option it must have been more conservative than Ryan's offer. A 3 month extension (which, considering what the Treasury can do to extend it means we are going to be dealing with this again in the summer before the 2018 election) with no Democratic concessions is vastly superior to an 18 month extension (firmly pushing it into a non-election year) in exchange for Democratic concessions in their minds and shows what a RINO cuck Ryan is for even suggesting the latter.

Well, yes, I get the political ramifications; Texas gets Harvey aid and everyone gets a debt ceiling moratorium and no government shutdown, while the issue is kept alive for 2018 (and it seems like it'll come due right before Christmas).

I'm more confused by what's going through Trump's head. He's probably enormously pissed at Ryan for failing to deliver on, well, anything, and forcing Ryan to not just work with the Democrats but to adopt their plan wholesale gives Trump his win and gives Ryan (and the "freedom" caucus) a huge black eye.

oh no, I don't think they were either. I think they went into with a game plan of sticking to their guns and giving the GOP the same deal they gave Obama. But you're right, I don't think they expected Trump to agree to it. I'm curious who is going to replace Ryan.

I would include McConnell but I'm fairly certain he's solidified his hold as GOP Majority/minority leader until his retirement/death
