Interesting.

Perhaps more interesting, it looks as if even if Facebook had known that the Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak was buying "Vote For Trump!" ad space on Facebook pages, it doesn't look like Facebook would themselves have any criminal nor civil liability for selling the ad space and running such ads.

If Russia could run pro-Bernie sites to divide the left, they could have "pro-Hillary" "supporters" be massive douches towards people to further divide the left.

It would explain a lot.

It would explain a few farkers who suddenly vanished post-election.  Though that could have just been shame, too.

Until after the fact.

Hey, it's money. If Facebook rejected money coming from terrible people trying to get a terrible person elected president, they would have gone out of business long ago.

Also, how is this news? (shrug)

Uh huh.  So we're back to "establishment Dems lost because they're meanies".  Even though a complete asshole actually won.  Sure.

Nice pivot from the actual story, which is that Hillary needed to overcome enemies from within and without in 2016.  But I'm sure if she'd just knocked on a few more doors in Michigan none of this would've mattered, right?

Ummmm ... subby, I actually did. Back in June. And my cat died last summer. Asshole

Other than that great headline.

The current threads have almost none of the virulent short-timers. What's been interesting is seeing the ones who stayed, and some of the alts doing the demoralization work.

Preachy headline aside, some folks use Facebook for a lot more than just "cute cat photos".   Company I work at found me through facebook networking.  They also hire artists the same way.  It's amazing there's a whole world out there different than yours.

Jokes on you subby, I stopped using Facebook already. Haven't logged in in like 6 months. Even when I did it was like 3 times, for about 3 minutes each before I went, "Ugh, fark this shiat" and promptly closed it.

I hate Facebook. I hate the self-centeredness it encourages with the self-tailored view of the (digital) world. So I opted out, and disabled all notifications from it. I'm Facebook free, and loving it.

Wheeeeeeelp... making American companies civilly or criminally liable for selling ads to ''the wrong people'', especially over the matter of elections, is gonna run into a bunch of horrible legal and practical hurdles.

Yeah I agree it's bullshiat and in an ideal world the people who knowingly helped a traitor win the American presidency would be tied down over barrels and publicly caned. This one is obvious, *in hindsight*, but oh BOY is it a nasty can of worms to open up.

I would have absolutely, absolutely LOVED it if a "farmer" and a "clueless fisherman" were to have accidentally broken all Russia's network links with Europe/US halfway through the third debate though. And lo, suddenly would have the tidal waves of paid trolls and twitterbots lying about Trump "winning" have fallen silent...

Yeah, I lasted maybe a year and a half on Facebook and quit around the same time. Likewise, my presence on Twitter was ever so brief. Instagram doesn't bother me in the same way, though. I still see it as a photo app and not a "social media" app.
