Donald Trump captured the Republican ballot line even though he had no appreciable connection to the Republican Party.

Most self-described Republicans have no appreciable connection to the Republican Party anymore. They're just racist socialists who found a leader who happened to have an R next to his name.

I am in awe of those who wrote fiction and saw the future would change things. Fully exploiting the basics of the human condition only required great advances in technology.

Never have so many known so little about so much.

When Apple unveiled its first smartphone in 2007, the company sparked a communications revolution likely to be as transformative as Gutenberg's.

No. The revolution started with the internet itself. Smartphones just made it mobile, genius.

What smart phones did was make the internet accessible and affordable to non tech savvy people. Just like the printing press.

Those people were already using computers in the daily.

The smart phone is more akin to the invention of the paperback, not the printing press

Good lord. Russians, hacked voting machines, now Steve Jobs?

The left just really doesn't want to face facts about how enough voters didn't want another 4-8 years of  their progressivism to get Trump elected.

That, and you know who.

The electoral college is the only reason Trump is president.  But you keep trying to push that "MOAR PEOPLE WANTED TRUMP" narrative...I'm sure eventually someone other than Trump will believe it.

Do we have to cover this again?  Enough individual voters did -- the Electoral System ruled otherwise.  And that's fine, those are the accepted rules.  But the rules don't make Trump (or those who voted for him) less of a goober, (or gaggle of goobers, if you will).

I grew up a mile from Shrine in Royal Oak, his church. My grandparent left his parish and went to another towns catholic church because they were such a-holes (that was a scandal in the 50's, you did not choose your own parish). My grandmother taught Sunday school and worked in and with the church for 50 years, she spent the last 15 years of her life in a home because of dementia and the Catholic Church would not send a priest (we offered to pay) because she did not attend services recently.

Conservative doesn't = racist.

But, the GOP has been complicit in attracting racists to the party, and allowing them influence on their platform and on their elections.

Being Conservative does NOT mean racist.

But voting GOP does mean that you are accepting of racism. I wish you had a NOT racist Conservative party...... But since you don't, voting for them IS accepting and validating racism.

/Not trying to win an election with my opinion.

Read the article, and it's mostly silliness; an opinion piece with a hyperbolic premise.

I will say, however, that it disturbs me how memes went from being a fun little thing we post on forums to actual arguments baby boomers will post up on Facebook to support their ultra-conservative viewpoints.

For example, my wife barely speaks to her father in person anymore because he tries to shut down any viewpoint of hers he doesn't like with a questionably-sourced "fact" embedded in a meme. It'd be funny if it weren't so awful.

Saddly, this is about the most accurate explanation of why Apple was so successful with the iPhone- they didn't invent the "smartphone" (they'd been around for over a decade - Blackberrys: Great for email, lousy phones, Windows Mobile: attempt to shrink a desktop to a 2x1.5 screen with predictable uselessness, Palm Treo's: great as a simple PDA but just dated, awful phone, Nokia- does anyone even remember anyone trying to use a Nokia pda?, etc.). They just figured out what functionality was needed in a handheld format, made it easy to use without a keyboard or stylus, and didn't try to mimic an existing OS designed for something else or in a different era. In a lot of ways the first iteration wasn't all that great, and they knew it, but they also knew what it did it did really friggin' well, and they'd address the loudest shortcomings through software upgrades and the next release in due time. They also didn't wholesale take what they built and turn it into their MacOS (although there is some crossover where it makes sense).
Today, in a lot of ways Android has largely figured most of this out (but Google really isn't in the desktop OS business so that side mostly doesn't apply) making the phone business an Apple vs Android decision (they're both good in their own ways), Microsoft finally built a phone os that had a decent interface, a decade late, then decided to ramrod that down their desktop users throats (with the predictable failure and user-blaming from MS), failing both in the process, and the rest (Blackberry, Palm, etc.) are Wikipedia articles.
