Roy Moore is undoubtedly well-versed in the same-sex-marriage debate

Feature, not a bug. It's funny that same-sex marriage is considered a 'debate'.

Moore is the US Taliban. Uninformed theocracy at its "finest."

It doesn't matter. Republican voters like him because he validates their hatreds and spite.

We do have Roy Moore to thank for the national legalization of gay marriage.  Without his circuit split, we'd still be fighting state by state.

As a native Georgian let me be the first to say Alabama deserves the eternal scorn and mockery it has and forever will receive from the other states, Miss'ippi notwithstanding. Roy Moore is a noted douche. But hey he stiggs it with the best of 'em and that's alllll the cousinfarkers care about.

Roll Tide, shiatheads.

Roy Moore will be a beacon of hope, honor, integrity and intelligence in our great Senate Chamber. Which will hopefully be nuked before that f*cker ever steps foot in it.

Yeah, I put up with that assault for about 8 seconds and then hit the reader view -- which wasn't available.
No loss, it's only a Roy Moore story.

What will it take to get rid of this theocrat? Seems like each time you hear he's been rightfully kicked out of a government office for unconstitutionally promoting Christianity over the First Amendment, he just keeps coming back.

Wasn't he a justice on the Alabama Supreme Court?  Doesn't know what a right-to-work law is?  A guy this clueless should stop screwing around with the Senate and seek the Republican presidential nomination

The voters of Alabama have to wise up and stop electing him.

So basically the heat death of the universe.

They gave up on that a long time ago.

Now they just counsel them on adequate safety measures to implement while eating their own feces.

The fact that they're trying to push the narrative it's a "debate" means they are still trying to convince people gay marriage needs to be banned.

Roy Moore is a human rights disaster.

Not all Alabamians are bad.  There's just not enough to outvote the shiatheads.  I grew up in the same hometown as Moore, and that is something I'm constantly reminded of every time he's in the news.  I couldn't get away from home fast enough.

We like to pretend that we've come a long way as a country.  That we have made advancements.  That our culture has improved.  None of it is true.  One hundred years ago the KKK was a political force in this country.  They can be again and they are very close to making it happen.  The man currently in the White House is the son of a man that was arrested at a KKK rally.  They may have changed the names of their organizations, but they promise the same hate in differently worded lies.

There's a reason why I don't go home very often.  I visited for about 8 hours this past July, and that was the first time I had set foot in Gadsden since 2011.  I cannot deal with the mindset there.

I know some amazing people from Alabama, but the key phrase is "from".  They all left as fast as they could and go home seldom.

The only friend I have that lives there still is caring for elderly parents.  She may be stuck when that duty ends, but not if I can help.

I went to Gadsden once.

...once.

I feel you though, grew up in Alabama, love a lot of things about the state, but the sheer mind-numbing political idiocy was more than enough reason to GTFO.

Mr Moore:

As the late, great Sam Kinison once said, "I hope you slide under a gas truck and taste your own blood."

You, sir, are a stain on America.

Hugs and kisses,

Another thing Moore doesn't understand is the Ten Commandments (or at least the Exodus Chapter 20 passage often mis-called "the Ten Commandments" ― the real Ten Commandments, the only passage in the entire Bible that is actually called that in the chapter itself, is Exodus Chapter 34, and it's very different), or else he would never have had an engraved ("graven") statue ("image") of them made.

I swear to Dog some parts of this country are quickly turning into third world theocratic hell holes. If I could get Canadian citizenship I would move there in a heart beat. I'm pretty much ready to give up on the US. The underlying hatred in this country is turning me into someone I don't like.

The legal arguments that overturned "separate but equal" were rooted in proving that separate WASN'T equal, the huge disparity around the country between "white" and "colored" facilities, accommodations, ect. meant that the underlying concept was faulty, that "separate but equal" was just a sham to provide unequal accommodations to African Americans.

Yes, it's theoretically possible that a future SCOTUS could change their mind, but that's like saying SCOTUS could rule that interracial marriage is unconstitutional, that is quite unlikely, the number of times they've changed a major precedent like that is pretty small. . .and historically it's always been in favor of increased rights. . .like Bowers vHardwick, 478 U.S. 186 (1986) being overturned by Lawrence v. Texas, 539 U.S. 558 (2003).

The underlying principle of stare decisis is that once a court has held something, it will continue to hold it, that SCOTUS doesn't change every major precedent every generation of new Justices.

Did you notice that the right-wing hate machine turned from marriage equality to anti-Trans "bathroom bills" as their new source of outrage, even their propaganda machine has turned away from the issue and they know that this isn't likely to change.  They aren't even making this a "we'll get SCOTUS to change it!" propaganda issue like Roe is.

It occurs to me that Moore is something of a precursor to Grumps. Stupid, pinheaded, narrow-minded, stubborn and bigoted, he panders to the worst in voters, who don't merely ignore, but revel in his flaws.
