Whelp, that settles it.  The GOP leaders are clearly insane if they actually believe that, given Trump's personal financial record.

You're looking to the guy who previously said he's in favor of "renegotiating" U.S. debt, to save you from a default? Good luck with that.

I'll go ahead and get it on record now: he's going to demand another attempt at the ACA repeal as part of any negotiations.

So.... takeaways:

1) The Republicans don't have consensus on or a strategy for passing a debt ceiling hike.

2) Conservatives are more concerned about the political impact of raising the ceiling than the country defaulting.

3) Leadership's plan is to have Trump tamp down the drama with a message of support & unity.

In the end, 2017 is a cautionary tale about stupid people.
Nobody thought that Trump would be president, because that's stupid.
Nobody thought that people would be actively supporting Nazism in public and media, because that's stupid.
Nobody thought that the GOP Leadership would trust Trump with anything more dangerous than a clean sock, because that's stupid.

I feel like this needs to happen... and it scares the shiat out of me and every evenly-minded person in this country.

We are on the brink of repeating 1974, 2001, and 2008's problems all in the same shiat year. And this all happened because there's a group of people stupid enough to continue to vote for these GOP morons even after all that happened in those respective years.

So now we could get a war, impeachment proceedings, and an economy imploding recession/depression because conservative farkwits haven't had enough pain, apparently.

It's not just eye goggles like most of us wear in a spray tan booth, amirite.  It's not just SPF lipstick. I swear the entire hair color is not only falsified, but the "distinguished touch of grey" on the temples is also complete bullWalgreens.  Or maybe he uses CVS, only his hairdresser knows for sure.

"... House Republican leaders fear that if Trump ends DACA, or the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, Democrats will withhold votes on the debt ceiling in protest. And Republicans know they'll need virtually every Democrat to back the debt ceiling bill or they won't be able to pass it, since many Republicans won't vote for it.

And there's the crux of the whole debt ceiling shebang. What price will Pelosi demand? She knows that Republicans can not govern so what will be her ask and will Ryan cave? It could be that Democrats will once again not want to harm the credit standing of the country the way the Republicans have, but they do own the majority in the House so why should Pelosi help them at all?

Cracked ran an article about things you learn as the makeup artist for famous people.  Trump was apparently doing his own makeup for much of the campaign.  I'm sure he thought it looked bigly.

I think the Democrats aren't voting on anything but a clean debt ceiling raise and budget anyway. And we already know that Trump won't sign either of those supposedly, unless he gets approval and funding to build his wall. He just campaigned AGAIN on that shiat.

So what is almost guaranteed to happen is that enough GOP will cave to pass a clean increase and a budget, then Trump will wipe his ass with it and demand his Wall be included with it. And then all hell breaks loose.

Well that's a winning plan. History books will be written about how prescient and wise they all were to support it. What excellent observers of character, behavior, and basic reality - this cannot fail!

She needs to make an offer, regardless.  You never say no, instead you put something on the table that is more than you think they can stomach.

I've suggested in the past that Democrats either insist on a clean CR that lasts through the midterms or a permanent debt ceiling fix.

Mmm, that's the position they sell to the rubes. Their actual position is to profit off of NOT doing that by holding not doing it hostage.

Unfortunately,  much as Brexit was equivalent to shooting your only hostage before negotiations began, Trump is equivalent to having Hannibal Lecter guard the only hostage...

2017-09-05 12:26:44 AM
I will grudgingly tip my hat and call it a win for Trump if he can miraculously do this one simple thing. Sadly, probably the only obstacle he really faces here is his own ego.

You know, only 304 individuals are to blame for this shiat sandwich. They're SUPPOSED to vote with the good of the country in mind. They're SUPPOSED to be the final safety valve against a torrent of stupid and crazy.
