Until the GOP stands up to any of this, and kicks the racists out of their party. Trump is the GOP. And the GOP is Trump.

Of course kicking out the racists would lose them some elections, so, I guess big tent time.

Wayne Bradley is director of African-American engagement for the Michigan GOP, where he tried to attract black voters in Detroit - which typically gives more than 95 percent of its vote to Democrats, reported the Detroit Free Press.
To reach out to voters, Bradley routinely expresses his thoughts on Facebook about news events - including the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville and President Donald Trump's controversial pardon of racist former sheriff Joe Arpaio.
"You can't claim to be from the Party of Lincoln and defend the confederacy," Bradley said in one post - and his fellow Republicans were outraged.

Serious Black: Instead, they may turn into the party of white apartheid.

They were warned, and yet they persisted.

Goldwater's leading rival, Gov. Nelson Rockefeller, has blasted the "Southern strategy" as a recipe for disaster. Many northern and borderstate Republicans agree with him. "My God," says a respected Republican senator, "we'd be the apartheid party."

None of this is new. Trump was clear about his intentions before the election, and the people who voted for him wanted white supremacy, fascism and the police state.

I was repeatedly chastised for referring to trump as either a proto-fascist or fully fascist.

I held back from calling him a nazi as he hadn't openly advocated for any ethnic cleansing, but he clearly thinks that Nazis are fine-Charlottesville proved that well enough.

That the leadership of the Republican Party has chosen to not take any action like censure or even saying they no longer support him shows they're no better.

I does seem that the GOP now looks at every issue and thinks, "What would be the biggest dick move position to take on this issue? Ah, that one. OK, folks, this is our new position on this issue, let's roll!"

It's just becoming the party of bitter, mean, and spiteful. And gleefully so.

Here I've been saying since 2008 that America was more fascist now than any time in our past, and we needed to step on it hard before it got worse.

I was laughed at by both sides.

two problems.

1. If they kicked out the white nationalist / nazis / etc.  they would lose a substantial amount of their base.
2. A large number of their ideas are ideas that are mostly going to appeal to people who (at their best) are demographically insensitive.

The core principles, and actionable policies,  of the republican party are only worth defending if you believe that everyone is born in the exact same situation and everyone is 100% responsible for their fate.

It's easy enough for a rich, old, white guy to appeal to other old white guys and find ways to scare old white women. What bothers me is the young, entitled, white farks who seem to think this is the next cool thing. I thought I'd outlive the old douchebags - and see a much better future where we could dump a lot of that useless crap. It depresses me that as I get older, attitudes and humanity and compassion get worse; it takes a farking catastrophe for us to pull together.

However this turns out, the GOP under Trump has defined itself as the white grievance party - bluntly, a party fueled by concocted white resentment aimed at minorities. Of all the actions Trump has taken, none has been as cruel, thoughtless or divisive as deporting hundreds of thousands of young people who've done nothing but go to school, work hard and present themselves to the government.

The party of Lincoln has become the party of Charlottesville, Arpaio, DACA repeal and the Muslim ban. Embodying the very worst sentiments and driven by irrational anger, it deserves not defense but extinction.

The above from the editorial, I do like the sound of the party of Charlottesville.

The pictures of his family.  They're turned around so he only sees the back of the frame.  I wonder if someone switched them out for some other pictures how long it would take for him to notice.

The central problem is white Christian evangelicals have taken over the party, by party invitation. Republicans had to invite them in, because without them they can't win elections.

Of course, the first mistress, the one true love, is the plutocracy. Old school classists, people with money, the right family name, and better bloodlines, are inherently better people and come first, everyone else second. The white Christian evangelicals love this idea of being first, everyone else second. So that's why they are politically aligned, even thought absolutely the plutocrats have zero interest in evangelical "socially acceptable mythological beliefs." It's a pact of convenience or they both lose.

If the pact breaks, they're both farked. They can't win elections. Unless somehow the Democrats also break. And then it gets really interesting.

And more than just the racial angle (which is significant enough), conservatives/Republicans are a Baby Boomer-dominant segment. They have incredible hatred for the younger generation, much more than the usual tension between the young and old. Real hatred.

They actively want to destroy the world to spite the younger generations. They are a truly evil, malevolent force.

Lol, didn't get past the line about ending DACA being an evil act. You know, because the SCOTUS would totally call the executive order "constitutional" when the suits go forward.
But yea, Trump is evil because he's keeping a campaign promise while putting pressure on the legislature to do it the right way.

They won't.  This is the end result of 50 years of courting the former KKK, white supremacist, right wing evangelical members of society.  Especially the last group, since these are people that will never, ever compromise. That being due to the fact that they believe they are right and everyone else is wrong.  There can be no compromise with people who think like that.

There was a time when conservatism meant something. It meant upholding our virtues, building a better future. Preparing for the worst while hoping (and acting!) for the best.

Now it's just the dregs.

I'm not super fond of the Democratic party, and I don't really think of myself as a leftist. I would have been a disgruntled FDR voter had I lived during that era. I will never vote for a Republican (or third party variant) as long as I live, however. They have proven their ill worth over and over again.

I am proud to have voted for President Obama twice and I will vote against this current incumbent party until the day I die. I vote against Arpaio, the hate shown in Charlottesville, and all the rest of that crap. I voted for Mark Warner as Governor and as Senator. That's who I am and who I'm going to be.

He was immediately rebuked by state members of his own party, but nothing was actually done about it, no sanctioning (I mean what can they do? There's no mechanism to sanction him.) And he took that flag off his desk earlier this year after Iowa police shootings by a guy who more or less draped himself in the Confederate flag. So basically it took someone getting shot before his conscience arrived.
