Can we STFU about the 2020 election for the next 2 years?

2017-09-04 01:35:19 AM
Just farking stop it already. Two years is more than enough time to run a presidential campaign. Focus on the local, state, and Congressional races until 2019 starts. Anything else is a waste of resources and attention.

Aint gonna be no country-saving occurring before 2020, except in the sense of a very slight possibility of an uptick in Democrats in the House.

No it's not.  Qualification for VP is that they can serve as President. Obama can't serve as President.

Get Trump out of there, and get an adult mind in there, or there won't be a country to have an election in, in 2020.

2017-09-04 07:21:02 AM
But one political donor believes it is too early for candidates to be suggesting their names as potentials to take on Donald Trump.

fark YEAH.  Christ, we're not even to the farking midterms.  For the next year, we're going to be hearing two moronic biatchings:
"The Democrats need to concentrate on the first step, midterms, not the presidency."
"The Democrats have no plan because they haven't selected a presidential candidate yet."

Of course, the same farking idiots making these comments will be the same ones who will then complain how the DNC pre-selects all their candidates.

OK, former civil rights lawyer and well-regarded governor of a state with a proper quasi-communist medical care setup.  Kind of a boringly safe choice, but at least Obama has a history of doing "boringly safe" well and having it end well.

I'd rather have the party pick someone who isn't going to hit the farking retirement age in their first term... to the point that I can almost guarantee I won't vote for the guy in the primary on those grounds alone, but I wouldn't be terribly upset if he ended up being our guy in the general, I guess.  I mean, the last few major party candidates have sort of set the bar low on being out-of-touch rich motherfarkers already sold out to moneyed interests and 80% senile, with Obama being the only real exception.  So... "sure, whatever, why not" on this guy.

No, it isn't.

The 12th Amendment clearly states that nobody can be VP if they aren't eligible to be POTUS.  Obama is term-limited by the 22nd Amendment.

Amendment 22, Section 1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.

Amendment 12, Section 3: The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President, shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

See, it's a catch-22. The shorter it goes, the less likely it is that the common clay voter will bother to try and make the informed decision. I think it needs to start at exactly one year out, and no one - PACs included - can fundraise or talk themselves up until then. I know that people will figure ways around it, but it's a start.
