He was in the margin of error. National numbers matched polls.

You're maybe confusing the aggregators/oddsmakers with actual polls?

Most polls had Hillary up anywhere from 2-5 points nationally at the time of the election.   She won the popular vote nationally by 2%.

Most state polls in the swing states were within the MOE.

Now, the fact that Trump did win every swing state Hillary didn't need (IA, OH, NC, FL) PLUS the "blue wall" states she did need (WI, MI, PA) shows that there might have been a 2-3% "bias" towards Clinton/against Trump, as he consistently did better than the polling "average" near the end, even though many were within 1-3% and he was within MOE.

So.... OK, one could claim there is a 2-3% polling bias against Trump across the board maybe, especially in states/areas that might be more favorable to him.... to Trump I say.... your average approval rating is still 37-38% dipshiat..... so, at best you are still in the very low 40s% approval rating.  That isn't anything to hang your hat on.

I never said you did. However we've still got the propaganda arm of the Republican Party going on non stop about them, trump trying to use them as a distraction from the clusterfark that is his failing administration and by many to cover for what appear to be crimes committed by his campaign.

Gallup didn't poll the election.

But they are polling Trump's disapproval at 61% and his approval rating at 34%.

Rasmussen, which Trump proclaimed to be the most accurate, now puts his approval rating at 42%.  His strongly approve rating is at 21% and his strongly disapprove is at 44%.

As the dollar depreciates against other currencies, the U.S. stock market, which consists of lots of companies with foreign assets, will rise.  It doesn't actually mean the stocks are more valuable.

Does that mean Russia is artificially inflating the approval ratings too?

2017-09-02 08:03:26 PM
The real issue is how these approval ratings translate into votes on election day.  I presume that many will still vote for Trump even though they state they disapprove of him.

2017-09-02 08:03:54 PM
Can we talk about probabilities? I made a hand-wringing post around the time when 538 had Trump at around a 35% chance of winning and took some shiat for it for being too hand-wringey.

Play some poker or other gambling games online and you'll find yourself winning with an under 35% chance (and losing with an over 65% chance of winning) several times an hour.

2017-09-02 08:03:54 PM
Polls aren't predictions, they're just snapshots of opinions.  At best they're probabilities, and no poll said he had a 0% chance of winning.

Also, if we're going to pretend polls are predictions, and the polls predicted Trump would lose but he didn't, then there must be some other factor at play.  Like foreign interference in collusion with Trump's campaign, perhaps?
