Hmm, why would Trump pick this guy?

Bridenstine was a strong supporter of Trump's presidency

Yep, the only thing that matters

is a former executive director of the Tulsa Air and Space Museum and Planetarium between December 2008 and August 2010

Tulsa, subby. Not Tampa.

Black people need tons of experience. White people need to be white.

the nomination has more to do with politics than competence

Man, so much shocking news coming out today I may need to lay down.

Not impressed.  He has not written a single paper on space tornadoes.

Climate change deniers are poised to be in charge of both the agency charged with preventing greenhouse gas emissions, and the agency tasked with studying the climate. And both from Oklahoma, the place where fracking wells would drilled in the heads of infants if they had petroleum in them.

Well, if one accepts the theory that the planets, solar system, and in fact the entire galaxy and possibly the universe are all spinning, all the time, then one must also be open to the theoretical possibility that what's really happening is we're all stuck inside some great, cosmic tornado. Maybe the entire universe, in fact, is a tornado that's been winding its way across some alien planet, and we're all just trapped inside it and unaware. Maybe, in fact, every tornado is its own universe, with infinite other planets and galaxies spinning inside them, and we're watching them even as we ourselves are being watched. I think it's awesome that we're getting some real outside the box thinkers into NASA. This is how real learning begins -- one man, one pioneer, unafraid to question everything.

Yeah, I was a bit confused by the "Tampa" Air and Space Museum bit. Never heard of that one. And he was an executive director for two years. An executive director with a business degree and no museum experience, so I bet the curatorial staff is very glad he is gone.

He's been set between the hammer and the anvil.

I think people at NASA are still burning over the loss of Columbia, and are absolutely mad to get Orion/STS properly prepared for launch.

They are not liable to tolerate any bullsh*t.

I hope the Senate tosses him.

NASA CSB:

At the gate used by most employees at JSC there was one of those old-fashioned signs "Number of Days Since an Accident". I'd go through that gate usually for one week a month. The count was at something like 730.

Then there's a shooting/homicide: some contractor finds out that his wife, who is also a contractor, is sleeping with another guy who is also a contractor. He brings a gun to work and gets all shooty.

Next trip, the sign reads something in the single digits.

Next trip after that, it's at something in the 780s. I said to the guard, what the heck? He grinned and said the review board ruled it wasn't an accident.

No he's not. He has no science or engineering expertise, pretends climate change doesn't exist, and was a co-chair for a campaign that thought it was a good idea for Ted Cruz to be president.

That's pretty good.  That said, I accept "Learning more about Tornadoes" as a valid reason to be interested in space.  Jupiter's red spot has been going for centuries.

Three points:
1) the TASM is a very nice place that is all science with no religious or political BS. It's not the Smithsonian but they do a good job with what they have.
2) I'm tickled that Trump is trying to drain the Oklahoma swamp of Republicans. Enjoy 'em!
3) Bridenstine isn't running again anyhoo but there are currently no Democrats even trying for his seat. The DNC needs to stop giving up on every seat so easily if they want to get any hint of political power back.
