There aren't that may left to promote.

If they don't succeed in their plan to hobble the country for whatever reason, then I hope in about 4 years we get a big investigation that uncovers what was going on while this was all being farked up. If it turns out to be nothing, and their only motive was to reduce cost I will eat all your hats.

That is the question on the world's mind.

But see, the new administration will not investigate the prior administration because it looks like you're just attacking your opponents/predecessors.

As wrong as it is, Obama going after Bush for war crimes, for instance, woul dhave looked identical to Trump trying to lock up HIllary.

Trolly headline, subby.  RTFA.  It's neither nefarious or apocalyptic.  Not as many promotions.

/though the project to raise Stalin from the dead seems like an odd thing to reference at the end of the article

It is a well known business tactic to drive out ambitious people or tgose who would question wrongdoing / unethical practices. Promote toadies and let it be quietly known that the others are at their ceiling. People who were on promotion track will get disgusted and leave, because they are usually skilled enough to land good jobs elsewhere. Even if they stay, you can bet they are less eager to do their jobs or question things. Why question when you are going to be ignored or marginalized? And it is a great object lesson for newbies.

Fwiw, this practice usually leads to the company imploding. So, I guess Tillerson is proceeding with his mission parameters.

Government Refuses to fund the census properly

Government refuses to do diplomacy.

Both are required in the constitution. Are we going to sue or what?

Why are you all so concerned?

I'm sure Russia has a State Department big enough for both of us, Comrade Question.

I would think that due to the Trump fail to fill appointed positions, there'd be more need for promotions. All the jobs for political appointees that haven't been appointed need to be done by a career diplomat with the word "acting" on his/her title. That's a promotion.

The state department will be crippled for a generation. And that should worry you.

Only I believe Tillerson has a goal of shredding the department, knowing it will survive in a crippled form. Sears guy is ctruing to save a company and knowsnit may close.

You mean if you got in trouble overseas you'd want your government to have your back?
You mean if you did business overseas you'd want your government to be supportive?

Fascinating.

Their motive is to enrich themselves at the expense of the nation. In Trump's case, a big part of that involves paying back his debts to Putin. He doesn't care that he's tearing America to shreds; he has no empathy or loyalties, he cares only about what benefits himself.

Thank God they're finally running it like a business.
Also:  "All I can offer you on the other side of that equation is an opportunity to shape the future way in which we will deliver on mission, and I can almost promise you - because I have never been through one of these exercises where it wasn't true - that I can promise you that when this is all done."

That's a lot of words to say less than nothing.

Previous threads made it sound like Tillerson was one of the only adults in the Trump Administration.

He is just as complicit as the rest of them in their attempt to destroy the American government.

I know someone with family that were high up in State. Until Trump. He didn't start pessimistic, but now all he does when asked how things are going is shake his head and say, "It's going to take at least 20 years to recover from this administration." This is a guy who never fails to be up beat and positive

Frankly, I think he's optimistic with his 20 year min opinion.

I'm leaning towards "I don't know if it can actually BE fixed, at this point. There's so much damage, we might end up just having to get used to a new, shiattier normal"

Well, that is a most unfortunate typo.

People need to stop assuming that things aren't getting done because he isn't filling many of the positions that his predecessors have. The guy is a savvy businessman and is likely just trimming the fat. Let's be honest, being the government, there were probably hundreds of people that came to work and spent the day surfing the internet because they had nothing to do.

Bannon had some sort of weird libertarian angle going on which he called the "deconstruction of the administrative state". He was of the mind that if it doesn't benefit the American people (and by that he means people like him), get rid of it. This includes social programs that millions of Americans need but he doesn't. It's analogous to getting rid of all wheelchair access ramps on all buildings because he's not disabled.

Trump, meanwhile, is more self-focused with his ideas about government: If it doesn't benefit him, his family or his friends directly, get rid of it. He has almost zero interest in any department, policy or program that doesn't help him make money. That's the only thing he really cares about.

When it comes to the State Department, Bannon wanted to get rid of it because he's an isolationist. Trump wants to get rid of it because he doesn't see the point to it. He wants to handle all negotiations, deals, treaties and diplomatic relations with all countries himself, so what does he need ambassadors for? He wouldn't want anyone acting on his behalf anyway. That's the one thing he wants full control over: How America deals with other countries.

Unfortunately, there are laws that prevent the President from simply dissolving the State Department by executive order, so while he can't fully eliminate it, he can marginalize it to such an extent as to render it ineffectual.

As for what are the ramifications from such an action? No one's really sure. There are a whole bunch of speculative scenarios that might come out of this, ranging from mild to drastic, but none of them are very good.

That was the very thing that caught my eye...

He's just trying to make America great again by bringing wayward Americans home. Or force them to relocate. Either way, the less scrutiny his actual patrons face means a bigger bonus when he leaves, so double plus gooder!
