Hey, they came here and won.  Good for them. Coach Carr went to their locker room to congratulate them in person.

Wait, 10 years ago? Wha?...but...but...god damn it can't be 10 years. I remember that game and how it just about broke Fark.

Lloyd Carr's penultimate humiliation (the ultimate was, of course, losing to Ohio State yet again).

And then RichRod took over and promptly give them the three worst seasons in the program's history, including a loss to Toledo.

I believe Michigan lost their next home game after that too. I think it was to Oregon. After that, I started calling them Luka because of how often the Wolverines got beaten at home.

CSB: I was at that game.  I was sitting in the stands at the end zone where the last field goal was blocked.  As a Michigan fan, that hurt like hell.  But, I figured if it happened to anyone else I would find it funny.  So I did my best to not be an asshole about it.   I had 4 Appalachian State fans sitting right next to me.  I asked them why weren't they celebrating?  They said they didn't want to get beat up.  I assured them that wasn't going to happen.  They said it would in Columbus.  I reminded them they weren't in Columbus.  They said they appreciated me being so cool with them, and asked if I would take their picture with the scoreboard behind them.  Even a bit irritated at that point, I took their camera, and asked, "Ok, who ruined Dan's weekend?"  Took the picture and left.

You forgot to add:  "...and I still have their camera today."

Yeah, I've heard some horror stories from friends about games in Columbus. Beer bottles thrown at cars, damage done while parked, getting shoved, hit, kicked... I've never witnessed that sort of thing at any of the games I've attended in Ann Arbor, and if I had, I'd have made sure anybody who perpetrated such acts would have been dealt with in some fashion. Hell... I was there during one game against Notre Dame, where two particularly obnoxious Irish fans sat next to us, getting in people's faces early in the game. They lost... and the couple started crying, clearly a bit overly emotional. I'm sure we were all annoyed to the point that the schadenfreude was quite delicious, and rubbing it in was certainly the first instinct - but nobody rubbed it in. We consoled them and let them be.

You pointed out that celebrating a win was one thing, but didn't point out the danger of comparing the place to Columbus?  I guess you wanted them beaten after all.

According to 538, Appalachian state is still doing wonders with the talent available for non-division 1A (or whatever it calls itself now), along with the service acadamies (if only sorta for West Point).  For the rest, it is hard to tell if they are just better at recruiting than coaching (says the Terp allumni, see them down near the very bottom).

It was a great day when dickrod went from WV to U-M and ruined both programs.

They're in 1A now. Came up a couple of years ago.

Appalachian State has never played Ohio State. The only reason they'd get beaten up by Buckeyes fans is for lying about their team.

It was an odd year.

You could easily argue that that game was what made the network concept viable. There was doubt as to why people would want a conference network on their cable package until this happened and people said "hey, real shiat happens in non-espn games".

I needed that, Subby.
