I heard that Trump is going back to TX on Saturday for a "do over".  He can't let Pence get the spotlight, after all.

Trump has a large staff of people who job it is to make him look smart, compassionate, and Presidential.  If he paid them the slightest attention, most of America would still hate him, but he would cut down on the mockery.

But that would mean the cancellation of The President Show on Comedy Central.  Then, I would be left with only the Daily Show, which I have used as the lead-in to other programs.

Yeah, but we all know how Trump's "do-overs" end up.  He'll visit Houston tomorrow -- and by "visit" I mean "fly over in a helicopter for a few minutes for a few photo ops," grudgingly read a prepared speech from dry land miles away praising all the volunteers and organizations for the rescue efforts, and then on Tuesday hold a press conference bringing the focus back to him, complain about the fake news trashing him for his initial self-centered response, and talk more about the border wall, threatening a government shutdown and insisting the funding for the wall be bundled in with the Harvey relief bill.

Just another week with Trump the Terrible.

Hm. Y'know, if President Trump murders Mike Pence in front of witnesses, that might be enough to get a lot of Republicans in Congress on board with impeachment. I'm still not sure it would be enough to clear the two-thirds vote required for conviction in the Senate, however.

2017-09-01 11:27:45 AM
This is interesting. At this point, Republican voters' defensiveness about Trump is fossilized against any lib or most establishment GOP criticism.

But Pence is clean. He loudly supports Trump or stays silent and distant when Trump farks up. GOP voters haven't gotten their backs up against him.

And here he is, being human and caring and humble in the face of disaster, showing up to comfort and help out on the ground, and still giving all this credit to Trump. I have no doubt that this side of him is sincere, however much he's a wretched person in other ways and also shrewdly sees a good photo-op.

And people are hurting; they're living in hell or watching hell unfold from afar. Nearly all of us regardless of political stripe are sniffling and proud and hopeful over stories of volunteer rescues and people coming together. Everyone's primed for it. We're all kinda sappy right now, which we should be.

GOP voters will see Trump's and Pence's responses, still through the non-threatening lenses of the media they usually consume. And it's pretty frickin' blatant which man works to add to that hope, and which stays distant and self-involved in the face of others' pain. Biiiiig instantaneous contrast.

I could see the fact that Pence is non-threatening, and that the media through which they see both responses is non-threatening, could give even a few of them the safe mental space to actually see and feel some of Trump's flaws. Definitely not enough to break from him at this point, but to get some doubts and criticisms simmering that wouldn't otherwise make it through.

And any cracks in that armor are good.

Trump, on the Mar-a-Lago golf course: "Harvey, the people of Texas.... I think there's blame on both sides. I know it, and you know it. Personally, I like states that don't get hit by hurricanes."

Yes!!  Ideally so Trump fires Pence just before the impeachment comes down. "President Pence" scares me almost as much as "President Trump"

Why is he apparently sitting alone at a table at Camp David, having photos of him seeming to pout at a wall or whatever he's looking at (possibly a TV)?

Good question. He was there for a while when they were renovating the White House, but I don't recall seeing any explanation for the second trip. Maybe he didn't like the new wallpaper in his office?

I think a couple of leaks exposing Pence's Russian connections would do the trick.

Obama came in and stained it all over before he had a chance to enjoy it.  (I just refuse to believe the wallpaper in the Oval Office was covered in stains, per his claims.)

That really is a strange photo, though, since it's clear activity was going on at the White House and it appears he is there with whoever took the photo. It could be cropped and there are other people there, but I'd love to know the story behind it.

No, no, no.  You gotta do it like they did before.  First Agnew, then Nixon.  It's the only way you get to Ford.

If Pence actually has some hard connections and it comes out enough to be credible, you are right, it might get him to resign.... unlike Trump, Pence is like most other politicians who believe when you've been "found out", you have to bail, whether for ethical or embarrassment reasons.

It is why Trump is a wild card, and he won't resign himself.

The thing that impresses me about Pence is his giant hands. Enormous, manly, and most importantly, strong, strong hands.

Also his natural head of hair that's not grown long and teased and combed and swirled and glued into place.

But mostly his strong, manly, enormous hands that are not at all tiny feeble hamster paws.

Pence is at least easier to look at and listen to. Trump is repellent in every way. His appearance is grotesque. His voice is grating, even putting aside the stupid that issues from his gaping piehole.

So even though I'm sure Pence is not much better than Trump in regards to policy or ethics, at least the sight of him doesn't cause my face to twist into an expression of disgust, no matter how much I try to stop it.
