I thought Donald J. Trump is this administration's taint.

If it is against the law for any elected official to lease the property in question then WHY THE FARK IS IT STILL BEING LEASED TO TRUMP???

FFS, what is it gonna take?

You'd think he'd be in favor of the GSA deciding to terminate the lease. Then he can order them to write a new one, without that clause, and since, you know all those protesters have lowered the value, they should only charge him $1 a year.

Maybe, just maybe, Trump is actually helping us all by boundary testing the system our founding fathers setup. They were extremely concerned with preventing the ability to allow having a king. Trump's just seeing if it's possible. And once he succeeds, he'll totally say "OK -- I know I now have the full powers of a dictator, but I was just testing the system and I won't use them -- Let's fix the system so this can never happen again." That's what he'd do, right?

docpeteyJ: If it is against the law for any elected official to lease the property in question then WHY THE FARK IS IT STILL BEING LEASED TO TRUMP???

Their original argument just after Trump took office was that the lease with that clause meant that the person leasing the property only had to be a non-government person at the time the lease was signed.

Ta da...

2017-08-30 05:52:35 PM
This might be pertinent if the people that could hold him immediately accountable weren't either complicit or two scared of his dynamite monkey supporters to do something about it.

2017-08-30 05:52:52 PM
Laws and contracts don't apply to him. Duh.

This is why Republicans voted for him. They apparently like greedy assholes who promise to do something and then just refuse to do it or do it half-assedly and then blame someone else for farking it up.

Oh, sorry, I left some stuff out of that last sentence, let me correct it:

They apparently like rich, white, greedy assholes who promise to do something and then just refuse to do it or do it half-assedly and then blame someone else, usually a black or brown person, for farking it up.

2017-08-30 05:55:39 PM
An elected official can't benefit from the contract, and Trump is an elected official, ipso facto it's not even possible for Trump to benefit, like and such as. It's right there in the contract, duh.

2017-08-30 05:57:50 PM
"In March, GSA's Contracting Officer Kevin Terry and the agency's general counsel ruled that Trump was not in violation of his lease with GSA because he put the hotel in a trust and is not benefiting from the profits while he is in office."

There is no need for a drawn-out investigation. Benefits are accruing to Trump while this hotel is in a trust, and he can draw upon that trust at any time. Kick his ass out and make him repay every dime to the Treasury, not just profits from foreigners (which he isn't repaying anyhow).

Oh,, and fire Contracting Officer Kevin Terry for gross misfeasance.

I'd say many those systems are failing or have failed at the moment.

Like the electoral college, if Trump didn't hit the bar for them then no one will.

Actually:

GSA releases statement on Old Post Office lease
January 11, 2017
WASHINGTON -- Today the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) released the following statement on the Old Post Office building lease:
GSA understands that an announcement has been made to change the business structure of the Trump Organization. We are seeking additional information that explains and describes any new organizational structure as it applies to the Old Post Office lease. Upon receipt, consistent with our treatment of any contract to which we are a party, we will review this new organizational structure and determine its compliance with all the terms and conditions of the lease.
The full language of section 37.19 is below:
No member or delegate to Congress, or elected official of the Government of the United States or the Government of the District of Columbia, shall be admitted to any share or part of this Lease, or to any benefit that may arise therefrom; provided, however, that this provision shall not be construed as extending to any Person who may be a shareholder or other beneficial owner of any publicly held corporation or other entity, if this Lease is for the general benefit of such corporation or other entity.

But you're okay with the leasee having appointment power over the lessor who would determine compliance with that section of the contract, as long as it's a Republican doing it, right?

2017-08-30 06:16:08 PM
GSA awarded Trump Old Post Office LLC the 60-year, $180 million lease in 2013.
That's your problem right there.

I know. Every time a new "smoking gun" is revealed, I don't get excited. Just the opposite, in fact. Each incident just leaves me feeling more and more depressed about the fact that justice is not, and will not, be done.

None of this is a surprise, and based on the language of the lease it should have reverted immediately to government ownership the day Donald was sworn in. Why did this take more than six months? I realize we've been busy but wow...

Dickweed didn't drain the swamp. He moved it down the street and put in a funnel and a hose that goes straight to his pocket.
