But remember, it's Democratic obstruction that's the problem.

Kouta: Trump couldn't mismanage his way into a paper bag, let alone get out of one.

Was going to say that he'd screw up a one car funeral, but this works too.

I wonder how the people of texas feel about this sort of thing?  do you suppose this eases their worries any?

This was probably part of Bannon's plan. Now that he's gone I expect things will speed up. Though now that someone has called him on it and he's responded, who knows. He may slow things down out of sheer "YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME!"

So, people are leaving government service, others show interest, but then when they go through all the disclosure requirements say, "Um, does 'no' work for you? 'Cause it's working for me." Others are watching the slow motion train wreck and say, "you know, jumping into tons of crushing metal isn't on my 'to do' list this year."
"Driving people away" is not the same as "managing the size and scope of government"

2017-08-30 06:39:09 AM
The government is too big so we're going to make it small enough to be completely ineffectual and leave people to the mercy of nature or each other.

Ambivalence: The government is too big so we're going to make it small enough to be completely ineffectual and leave people to the mercy of nature or each other.

Small enough to fit in a woman's uterus!

Yes, I thought it was no secret his catastrophic under-staffing of the government was intentional.

All part of the Bannon agenda to bring down the Federal government, "destroy the state" as he called it.

Combine that with the criminal levels of incompetence there, and Trump's idea that he can just have his kids run critical government functions like diplomacy themselves, and you've got a recipe for a hideously dysfunctional and under-performing government.

2017-08-30 06:58:27 AM
If we're really running government like a business when will we shut down and sell off the underperforming, money-pit divisions like Mississippi?

If only Obama hadn't farked this country up so bad, America would be great again by now. But sadly, Trump's big, manly hands are tied, he's too busy picking up the shambles Obama left the White House in. Hell, now that everyone knows an African America Family lived there, the property value might never go back up. It's a dump now.

... or so Trump's been saying for months

Right, so Laura Ingrahm of all people calls him out.  Perhaps she regrets straight-arm saluting him now.

Are there people out there who think Trump cares about government in any traditional sense of the word?

His stated mission is to dismantle most of it.

I totally believe he'll do as much as he possibly can to destroy the ability of the American government to function.

FTFA: "President Donald Trump fired back on Twitter, claiming that those positions had been left vacant on purpose... We are not looking to fill all of those positions. Don't need many of them "
~and~
"Trump blames Democrats for obstructing the administration's lagging efforts to fill key posts"

Nuff said?

My God the linked 'stories' at the bottom of TPM are such clickbait garbage.

I mean I know there's usually a fair amount of garbage at the bottom of these sort of news sites but that is just unmitigated garbage of the highest degree.

Don't need many of them - reduce size of government.

The government agencies are the same size whether or not he makes any appointments. They have the same budget and the same number of staffers. There's just no leadership directing those agencies. It's like having an aircraft carrier and then deciding that you'll "cut costs" by refusing to appoint a CO or an XO before sending it off on its tour of duty.

But he knows that. He's not cutting costs; he's running by the same rules as any other mob boss. He doesn't appoint people he doesn't own. He needs 100% loyalty. He needs you to be 100% dependent on him -- and that means he needs you to (A) be someone he personally knows and has personal leverage over, and (B) be someone so unqualified, incompetent, or crooked that you'd be out on your ass five minutes after he was removed from office. He has no interest in appointing anyone who might possibly benefit from an indictment, an impeachment, or a 25th-amendment coup.

This coming from the guy who is bankrupting the Secret Service thanks to his entitled family and his endless need to play golf.  You could save the government more money by downsizing him.

Why do people point and laugh

'cause Donald Trump can't keep a staff?

.

He needs White House spokesmen who lie all day

and, investigators who look the other way

.

He needs people to say he didn't say what he said

and, most of all sycophants to keep his ego fed.

.

But, the biggest reason he and his staff have quarrels

Is that most people have at least SOME morals.

.

It's a shame that after all is said and done (assuming Trump isn't impeached or otherwise removed from office) he'll always be associated with the Presidency and will be an example of the kind of country we are.

And it was amusing that yesterday in Texas  both he and Melania wore trucker hats with acronyms on them like they were Federal squidbillies. Yes, Melania, we know you are the First Lady and not some Eastern European gold digger.

Is it really a "good percentage"? Their budget is somewhat north of $2 billion.

The SS is paying the properties for space.  That's a non-zero number and any amount going into his pocket from the government is grift.  "A good percentage" might be off, but you get the idea.

Like it or not, he's the end product of a capitalist society. The moment he became president he became the example of the values this country holds dear. Nobody can say they had no idea this was coming, but they voted for him anyway. Even if he gets impeached, even locked up, he's going to remain a stain on the country.

But hey at least the libs got it stuck to them.

And now the Republicans get to explain how they don't mean any of their bullshiat political sayings now that the president and leader of their party believes it unironically.

Well, get going, you pathetic assholes.  Go ahead and explain to Trump how he was stupid for listening to the propaganda instead of being a 'job creator' who is in on the joke.  Go ahead, I'm sure that'll go well.
